are you asking for the specifics of an apple watch, or an app that will store the data.

my wife has an apple watch and she doesn't look at historical data as much as i do, but strava keeps records forever of HR, distance, etc.

I’m looking to upgrade from a Garmin 220. Can’t decide between a Garmin or Apple Watch. Always used Garmin thinking about switching to Apple. I run and do a little biking. Which one do you guys prefer?

No matter what the Apple watch isnt accurate. Polar is the standard and what the medical field uses. Everything else is pretty much junk and there are studies to prove it. Fitbit, Garmin, Apple, etc all failed.

Lots of them out there and I am not googling all day when you can for yourself but this came up with a quick search

quote:

Each of the 50 healthy adults wore two trackers at a time (one on each wrist) while walking on a treadmill at different speeds, from 2 mph up to 6 mph (3.2 to 9.7 km/h). The participants also wore a device from fitness tracker company Polar, called the H7 chest strap monitor, as well as electrodes used for a standard electrocardiogram (EKG) test, which also monitors the heart's electrical activity.

The measurements from the Polar chest strap and EKG were nearly identical, but the wrist-worn heart-rate monitors were not as accurate.

Of the four wrist-worn monitors, the Apple Watch and the Mio Fuse did the best. Most of their measurements fell within a range of 29 beats per minute (BPM) under the measurements from the EKG to 27 BPM above it. In contrast, the Fitbit Charge HR had measurements that ranged from 39 BPM under to 34 BPM above the measurements from the EKG, and the Basis Peak had measurements ranging from 33 BPM under to 39 BPM above the measurements from the EKG.

Like I said, Polar is the standard and the rest suck. Granted a chest strap is different but even the Polar watches and the Polar OH1 are way more accurate than the other options on the market.

So...the best of the best (apple watch evidently) will likely tell you that your heart rate is 140 or 190 when it is actually 165..... that pretty much sucks.

I love my Apple Watch for day to day use and as a smart watch, but for running I still use Garmin. The Apple Watch GPS just isn’t accurate enough (although if you don’t care that much for accuracy then I’m sure it would be fine...mine gets pretty close but always overestimates distances traveled)

Apple’s HR monitor is garbage.

Mine fluctuates from 55-155 all the time during a strength workout. It seems to only perform well during a run or swim.
