***Update***
Finished it in 58:14. Felt great. Even though I told myself a million times before the start to keep my pace and not start too fast I did, realized it early enough to pump the brakes a bit but never slowed down to the 10:00/mile pace I had planned. Guess my prep work and the extra adrenaline pushed me to my fastest 10k yet. Half marathon in October up next.

Running first 10k next week and looking for any last minute tips especially from people that have run this one before.

Started this journey two years ago at 275 and couldn’t run a block to the stop sign. I got down to 200 then got fat and happy all the way back to 230. I’ve been doing Keto and running like crazy, I’m down to 195 and my runs are better than ever. Trying to finish this race in under an hour.

I’ll be in the charity corral running for the veterans charity Bastion

One tip is to make sure you don't get excited and come out the gate running a lot faster than you should. It's quite easy to get caught in the moment. I would recommend keeping track of your pace from the start and make sure you don't deviate too much from your plan early on.

Other than that, have fun and congrats on your journey. The classic is a blast. Don't forget to have a few beers along the way.

Having run the Classic many years in a row, I can tell you the best advice is to just have fun with it. There are so many people there that it's hard to navigate traffic if you're trying to set a PR. It can be done, but it's best just to follow the pace of runners you think are close to the pace you're wanting to be at and ride it out. If you want to open it up and push a little, I find that between mile 2 through mile 4.5 the traffic spreads out more than at the beginning and end of the run.

No inclines during the run except for the bridges near the park. Grab some beers, donuts, and whatever else you find along the way and have a blast. You can achieve your goal for sure.

Did your training run have the same amount of elevation gain as the classic? Got to account for that

There's going to be a little more traffic than you're used to, especially in the first mile. Don't let the middle miles wear you down mentally. It gets tough running on a straightaway for that long. You'll also be able to see mile markers a long time before you actually get to them, and at the end you can see the finish but still have over a mile left to go. Don't kick it in too early or you'll hate yourself

it's in NOLA .

I will admit I've never done the CCC, but some things I've learned at races. Traffic sucks in the beginning, dont freak out trying to get around people to make your goal time. It's long enough to work itself out and wasting energy to side step around people will be annoying and possibly leave you rolling an ankle or something. I've been in the corral at races where my heart rate spiked higher standing there than it should have the entire race (slightly exaggerating). Pre race excitement is real. Find someone running your pace and stick to them. then make it a goal to beat them the last 2 miles. Keeps me from fading at the end. If they fall off or you feel better/worse then expected, find someone new.

That is really awesome--incredible weight loss, and it's great that you're running in addition to it. Most everyone on this board is hip to the fact that exercise is secondary to diet for weight loss, but I hate discounting it for the overall product--when you lose weight you want to do more. And when you do more, you realize how much better you feel and how much more you can do (with more pleasure) without all that excess baggage.

The community feel of these races is hard to beat--I always comment on how cool it is to have so many people together peacefully getting a natural high.

Some good advice above, about pacing and passing. My GPS showed i ran almost an extra half mile just going around people once at the Cooper River Bridge Run (10K in Charleston we try to do every year). I'll never PR in that race--way too many people, and I never seem to get there in time for my corral so i'm stuck passing strollers who sneaked up-- but it's still one of my favorite 10Ks.

have fun!

You should eat a donut, a hotdog and drink a beer during the run! Makes it more enjoyable.

First time running a 10k. Haven’t been training except for a couple miles here and there the past month.

Going to run the entire thing even if that means going at an 11 minute pace lol.

Thib I’ve done the eating drinking and running before. Even on 26.2. Ain’t nothing but a thing. But I’m not running it. I need to spend time on a paper plus I gave up beer during lent.

Drinking while running isn't an art I have mastered, I get lazy when I drink beer!

Bruh you just down it and get back to running. Much harder to eat a donut or hotdog and run.

10k was pretty fun. I hate running but the route was beautiful.

Ran around a 10 minute mile which isn’t bad for someone who’s probably ran 4 miles total this year lol
