Covid Antibodies question

I know I know, dumb question. But if you have the antibodies does that mean you had Covid at some point? Can you get it again?
Reason for this, the SO had surgery in Sept. She tested (-) , but had the antibodies. we are a small close family so if one got it we all got it. No one had anything close to what we are hearing. Should me and the boys get our blood tested to see if we have the antibodies?

You can't have antibodies against something without having been exposed to it at some point.

yes

No, unless you wanted to donate the plasma if you tested positive. Negative antibody test does not mean that you were never exposed or infected. I had COVID, no antibodies 2 months later.

Great answers.
The only addition I would add is: can you get it again? Yes "but unlikely"

Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't understand why anyone pays to get this test. What difference will it make if you have the antibodies or not? I understand it makes you kind of temporarily immune, but what difference will it make in your every day life?
If I had the antibodies, it wouldn't change anything at all in my day to day life. I'd still wear a mask as often as I do now when going to the grocery store, or Lowes, or Academy, etc. But even now, if I forget my mask in my truck, I'm not walking back to my truck to get it, antibodies or not.
I guess I don't get why it would change anything...

Because if positive you can sell your plasma

I took one through the UofL Co-Immunity Project back in July. If I had antibodies I wanted the opportunity to donate plasma since at the time they didn't have some of the treatments they have now. Just seemed like the right thing to do.

No one had anything close to what we are hearing.

Go donate blood, they will/may offer a free antibodies test. They need blood anyway.
