I don't see how any kind of fasting can really be deemed healthy.
Certainly you'll agree that the human body was likely evolved in an environment of forced fasting periods, no?

I fast for about 20 hours a day. It fits my schedule, I don't worry about breakfast or lunch, and my focus at work as well as the weight room has never been better.

There's no reason to eat based on "when it's socially recommended"

We as humans didn't evolve by eating 100 calorie snacks at our desk every 3 hours, we're predators. Hunt, eat, sleep, repeat.

If I put a dash of milk or creamer in my morning coffee, does that kill a fast?

No less than 50cals is usually the limit

currently doing intermittent fasting:

usually have a BCAA drink in the AM and eat lunch thru 8pm. Then don't eat anymore.

Seems to be working.

I like IF but I don't see 6 meals a burden or a wrong way to diet. It isn't that it "speeds up metabolism" because I know it doesn't or if it does it is marginal at best. However, I do find that when I diet and it is lower in calories, I do best when I have a constant supply of food and don't worry about being hungry by the time lunch time comes around. I did IF on a diet not too long ago and liked it but I was eating around 2000-2200 calories and could fit larger meals. On this PSMF, I eat so little calories that if I had half of my total calories at lunch and did IF, I would probably fall off the wagon.

IF has health benefits

Benefits for sure but not great for lean mass.

6 meals is in no way wrong, but also not a need either. The diet should be what works best for you. Granted there are hormonal benifits and other things with IF but its not some super system that works for everyone.

I disagree with George though, I think its fine for lean mass gains. All about hitting your macros. One mistake I see so many on reddit leangains sub make are they all want to cut because martin said something about not bulking until below 12-15%. But if you weigh 170 and cut, wtf are going to have left.

Also It seems like people who do leangains do so because they hate the gym and this carries over to diet. They all despise the high protein recommendations Martin makes and all justify it by saying 1g/per lb is good enough and they all wonder why they don't make progress.

"My most difficult clients are people that have crashed and burned on intermittent fasting. Here's how it always plays out: I get a guy that was 20-30% body fat. He does IF and he loses some fat and muscle. Then he gets stuck at 15-18% body fat, so he takes his calories down. Now he's stuck at 1800-2000 calories, nothing is happening, and he's miserable. Then he comes to me for help.

"That's the scenario I see every time. His metabolism is shot and he'll gain fat when coming off IF. His body is hoarding fat at this point; it's a self-protective mechanism. It can take us months to get his body functioning correctly again."

I've been skeptical of fasting as well. However, I feel like I can try it for a couple of weeks to see how I feel.

This article has me wary: Fasted cardio eats muscle
