Looking at workouts and have a pretty basic question. Most of the workouts talk about a certain number of reps and sets. My question is do you do all the workouts and come back and repeat or stay on the same equipment and do them all? I know this is basic but I’ve never really followed a routine.

Can you post an example of the workouts you're referring to, because the format of the workout will help me answer your question.

There's about a billion different workout formats, I'd need to see what you're looking at.

You do all of the reps and sets before moving on to the next exercise.

So if you have Bench and Squat scheduled for 5 sets of 5 reps each, you would do if
all of the bench sets first and then squat after.

A few programs might say otherwise but most especially for beginners will want you sticking to finishing the sets for an exercise before moving on.

Once you get used to that, you can look into supersets.

That clears it up. It just seemed to me you would be running all over the gym and losing the machine if you did it the other way.

Any advice on a planet fitness strength routine? I know the smith machine is frowned on but I'm sure I can get some use out of it.

Squats
Split squats
Bench press
Shoulder press
Shrugs
Bent over rows
Etc

You can do all sorts of things with a smith machine, it isn’t better than a barbell but it’s something

As a beginner, even the smith machine will be fantastic for you and you’ll make progress.

I rotate push and pull reps. For example I do a bench press set of 12, then do 12 on the row, and repeat push, pull sets until I do all of my sets. I alternate shoulder press and overhead pull, etc. On the mat I alternate pushups an sit-ups and plank and Russian twist, etc.

Do one exercise at a time. Especially the big compounds. They take a lot of energy and if you try to do too much, you'll wear yourself out. after a while, you can superset the smaller lifts.

Super sets are when you have 2 exercises and do a set of each before going back to the first.

lets say you have Bicep curls and Tricep extensions @ 4 sets of 10, you'd do 10 curls straight into 10 extensions before you rest. THen start again.
