Could you subconsciously be stressed about something? I know when I have a big day coming up sometimes the night before I dont sleep well because I'm thinking about everything I need to do in the back of my head.

No. I know what you mean though, because I used to be that way a lot several years ago, but haven’t felt that way in a long time.

I had gut problems and they started with waking up at night. Changed my diet and started sleeping through the night. Could be a possibility.

More fruits and veggies, NO processed foods. I basically ate meat and a vegetable that I prepared with a little salt and red pepper. I drank a homemade frozen fruit smoothie every afternoon. I was very strict for about a week before I noticed a difference. Then I slowly went back to eating whatever was available. Now I can tell when I overdo it because I don’t sleep as well and I just get strict again for a few days.

I do from time to time as well. I think it is subconscious as well. We could probably use 10 minutes of quiet prayer time or meditation time each night.

I have begun to use the "extra time" to go into another room and read. I would advise against reading on a device and get a real paper book to avoid the brightness of the screen.

You are not alone and you are not sick or diseased. I imagine that the greatest thinkers in history went through similar periods, especially when they were in the middle of a big project or developing a big idea.

We have a 5 week old, so my sleep schedule is a little skewed to say the least. Sometimes, I’ll wake up and not go to sleep for an hour or two. Kind of sucks because I wake up tired.

Sleep apnea. Do you snore? That used to happen to me before I did a home test and resulted in miled sleep apnea. I knew I snored by people always telling me, and when i explained to a few doctors they immediately said that was why. I would wake up at like 3am and not stressed, but actually ina good mood like i wanted to work out and begin my day. Now I have a mouth piece and sleep through the night.

When I started taking melatonin at bedtime I began sleeping better and waking up less in the middle of the night. If I do wake up I take another and it really helps.

I was recently while on a low calorie diet (about 1700 calories a day). I would wake up 2 or 3 am and not be able to go back asleep. Sometimes I would feel a very slight hunger. I recently started upping my calories and it has gotten much better.
