Putting this in the fitness board cause I'm a fitness junkie and hopefully some of you fellow athletes have been through a similar ordeal.

Long story short, this girl hits me head on and totals my car (wouldn't have been in this accident had I lived in Saudi Arabia) and fractures my distal radius and the proximal phalanx on my right thumb, and I'm right handed so typing this out with my left only is a pain. Since the accident, haven't been able to weight-train, work (I'm an EMT), play guitar, etc etc. Just got home from Duke and dying for the recovery to be quick & easy. Just want to regain full use of my hand with no limitations whatsoever.

So for those here who have had this or something similar performed, what was your post-op experience like and getting back into the gym?

Make sure you go to PT! I had wrist surgery and didn’t do PT. Just did stretching at home and I thought it took longer to get back to where I was pre surgery. After a year though I felt that I had no limitations in flexion or extension.

Yes, a plate and screws in my right wrist. Occupational Therapy is what got me back to full use of my hand. I highly recommend it.

Plate and screws in my wrist. You're looking at a minimum of 8 weeks before you'll be doing g anything that you'll consider normal activity. Depending on the fracture, surgeon may recommend longer.

That was 4 years ago. After surgery did OT for about 8 weeks and then it still took a while for my strength to return to normal.

I have a complete fracture of my distal phalanx on my pinky. It's been over a month now and still hasn't healed. The doctor keeps saying it will be fine but I am worried the bone might die or something and I have to amputate the end of my pinky off.

The ball of my ankle broke completely off. Two screws put it back on. It’s fine now.

Have you gotten a second opinion?

The sooner the better.

As long as it isn't displaced you shouldn't be too worried.

No I have thought about it but didn't want to hunt just for a different opinion. It's Louisiana Orthopedic specialist. They have a good reputation I have to believe the guy knows what he is doing.

It did get in a worse position from the first x-ray to the second. I brought up my concern and he dismissed them immediately and said it would not be an issue and if it gave issues later they would rebreak and pin.
