Not sure if this is where this is supposed to go, but being this board is part health, I'd figured I'd give it a try. I've been dealing with jaw aches/soreness for probably close to a month now (only right side). Have been to Dentist and x-rays were taken. Was told there was evidence of some grinding, etc. but not severe. It should be noted that I've experienced some personal and family stress in this same time span. My main question is, has anyone here dealt with TMJ and if so, how long before it went away completely or what remedies did you find helped the most?

You are probably clinching your jaw and don;t even know it. Try to be mindful of it during the day. I had that issue a year ago. I even wore a mouth piece at night for a while. I tackled the stressful issue in my life, and it stopped.

I feel for you. I spent most of my life scoffing at folks that complained about TMJ. About 9 months ago I started waking up with jaw pain so damn bad that I couldn't open my mouth. By mid morning it felt a little better. I did nothing for it and it has gone away for now. Probably went on for 3 months or so.

I will tell you this, it did seem to flare up more at nights on days I went to the gym. I thought that was weird.

I don't disagree about not being aware that I'm clinching. Regarding the mouthpiece, was it a certain kind?

Thanks for the insight! I honestly feel like when the stress eventually gets relieved, it'll go away. My situation is pretty much the same. When I wake up I'm good, majority of the day I'm good but by 6-7 at night, it aches a bit more. Depending on type of food I eat determines severity of soreness.

Nope, just bought it off amazon. Look for a very thin one. If I have time later, Ill try to search my amazon history.

Also, if you are not doing yoga, make time for it. It helps you become more aware of your body and relieves stress.

Appreciate that; I exercise daily but don't do much yoga. I'll try to begin incorporating that into my regimen.

I've had it since I was 15 or 16. I'm 31 now. It doesn't ever really cause me pain but loud clicking/popping. I clench my jaw when stressed and when working out intensely. Probably clench at night too. Starting to cause fractures in some of my molars. I have a bite guard but I can't sleep with it in.

I've tried many times to keep aware of it and not do it but it's such an engrained habit now that it's just automatic

I was having a bad problem with it 30 years ago.Dentist did an impression and saw I had couple of high spots on molars. He ground off the high spots and I’ve not had any trouble since.I’m not saying that’s your problem but it is something to bring up with your dentist.
