Started hitting everything an extra ten yards today. Only change was ball. Is there really that much difference in new balls with an 8 iron? Went from snell mtbx to vice pro plus

This can happen if you’re a novice and improving. Maybe you’ve figured out how to get better club head lag, or you are hitting with a more descending blow and compressing the ball better. Or maybe you just started making more solid contact, lots of factors in play.

In my experience, no, changing balls won’t increase an 8 iron 10 yards

Probably more the swing than the ball.

I’ve always struck my short irons well, maybe just a little too much swing oil

I’ll do this from time to time.

Typically when I feel good and confident

The ball absolutely makes a difference.

But so does heat. Did you play during the middle of the day?

I was hitting it longer yesterday and I was using the same ball. I think sometimes the swing is just dialed and the weather makes it fly a little more.

I do believe the ball you're using has an effect as well.

It could make that much of a difference, but the balls you are hitting are pretty similar its likely just other smaller factors.

It shouldn't be that much of a difference with an 8 iron either way. The shorter the club, the more similar different balls are going to perform.

With a driver, yes, but with a short iron you should see similar performance, certainly not like a 7% difference.

true, for robot testing or scratch golfers, but if a mid to high handicapper switched from a high spin ball to a low spin ball they could absolutley see that difference on an 8 iron
