I could see either way, but I doubt Rory is even thinking about it right now.

Zurich is a good place to ease your way back into tournament golf. He can come celebrate in a fantastic city for food & drink with his buddy Shane and their families, while playing a laid back tour event.

If he skipped it though I’d totally understand.

I somewhat think he views that as the tournament that kick started his recent run so I think he plays

I think it would be shitty of the defending champs to ditch the event. That was a lot of fun last year watching Shane and Rory pull it out in the playoff.

Yes. They just said on the Golf Channel that the Zurich will be his next start.

I mean he and Lowry are listed as committed along with a few other teams.

They were the first pair listed as committed for the tournament. I believe there is some kind of contractual obligation at that point, I could be wrong.

Wouldn’t be shocked if X and Cantley skipped, especially with X’s injury earlier this year. Rumor going around is a few European potential Ryder Cupers are going to play as a way to try certain parings. I’m hoping Aberg plays.

Problem is Zurich is directly follows The Masters and the RBC which is a signature event so it’s a natural rest week for the top players.

From March to July there are the 4 Majors, the Players championship and 5 signature events.

That is 10 events in 5 months that are premium events.
Where would you put the Zurich Classic?
Pretty much every regular event is going to struggle to get big name players.

The Zurich has a pretty loaded field now and for roughly 120k total attendance last year

It’s just fine where it is on the schedule. Mental break for players, and good weather for fans

Players wives love it being Jazz Fest time also. You'll get a bunch of the younger guys who may be less known coming trying to get a good payday.

I am not saying it deserves special treatment, but in a Ryder year it should be an elevated event or at least require certain participation. My opinion only, I understand scheduling constraints.

Simply, don’t make RBC elevated event this year. Problem solved

I agree that the PGA needs to move the signature events around some. But the issue with that for signature events is sponsorship.

Most sponsors may not want to put up extra money needed. There just isn't an ROI.

Would Zurich pay $25 million instead of $13 million to become a signature event?

I remember seeing Xander play with Tag Ridings in 2017 when he was still a nobody.

12M is a drop in bucket with the names in the signature events, hell Nike made 12M just on Sunday by selling pink shoes. Zurich is no Nike, but I would think the top 25 would bring that money in x 2

But I am just spitballing and really have no clue. I’ll be there regardless
