Position golf. It is a well manicured golf course. This was back in 2009 when I played.

you better hit is on the green stuff. if you spray, it is brutal. but overall a very fun time. Grayhawk is also great.

Played it two weeks ago. If your driver isn’t straight, just take something less to find the grass. The greens are pretty large so if you can manage off the tee you should be decent on your approach. Greens do have some movement in them and some elevated greens so work on lag putting and shots around the green. Holes in 16 and 17 are absolutely great.

Have fun

I'll be out there in a couple weeks as well. Can report back with conditions. We're doing 36 at troon and 18 at grayhawk

Seems like a lot of people are headed to AZ. Check out Quintero if you can make a 40 minute drive, want another option close to Scottsdale, we-ko-pa

I'd heard that we-ko-pa Saguaro was burnt out? This still true?

ETA: we thought about Quintero, but just didn't feel like making the drive. It would've been about an hour from where we're staying

It is a really fun course. Played that and Grayhawk back in 2001. Hit the short grass off the tee or you will get brutalized.

The Phoenician Golf Course is a fun and challenging course. Enjoyed my round. The TPC is a must right before the WM (played date before it closed)...the 16th was awesome with the stands.

Played we-ko-pa cholla a couple weeks ago ecausebthey had Sugaaro down for maintenance. When we played chills it was the second day it was open if they did work on it so it was pure. I don’t see why Suguaro wouldn’t be the same.

Bring a “desert club”. I didn’t and knicked up my irons from the gravel in the sand.

I’m curious, have you played Papago? Is it legit? If I am back out in the area, I’m thinking of hitting that course up.

I’ve played it once, I’ll give it a 7/10. It’s long but flat and you can tell it’s a Muni once you’re on the course. It’s fun but there are better options right now with these summer rates.

How does the ball fly compared to south la? I’ve heard it goes farther and straighter with the elevation and dry air. I think rain said everything stays on line with no humidity out there

Meh, I’m sure there’s some difference. I’ve only played back in Louisiana once the past couple of years. Yardages were roughly the same, I’m sure there’s a couple yards difference but I’m not going to act like it make a massive difference in my game.

Played both courses at Troon, We-ko-Pa Cholla course, and Grayhawk Talon course. All four tracks are excellent desert courses and in great shape. Troon had some issues with the greens being incredibly soft and pitted up with old ball mark scars, other than that it was great. Both Troon courses were the best scenic courses with a number of views throughout the 36, Monument probably had a few more views. Each course had at least 1 drivable par 4 which was neat. My only complaint on Talon would be that it seemed like every par 5 was your generic 3 shotter and didn't really present a risk/reward opportunity to go for it. You've really got to hit it straight out there as danger (desert) is everywhere just off the fairway. And it's not your open desert area like a bunker, you basically always end up near a cactus, boulder or some other obstruction. If you can play it out the desert, it's playing out of gravel, not sand

I would recommend all 4 tracks to anyone but if I was ranking on my enjoyment of them I'd go

1. We-ko-Pa - Cholla
2. Grayhawk - Talon
3. Troon North - Monument
4. Troon North - Pinnacle

Played Monument last Saturday. Great scenery, great amenities, the greens were in great shape but did have some ball marks. The par 3's were incredible, especially 16.The fairways were definitely a little burnt up, but that seems normal in 120 heat with no rain. Were the other courses you played the same way? Definitely gonna be back to Scottsdale to play multiple courses but definitely not in the summer

No the only place we had burnt up fairways was troon north which seemed odd bc it also seemed the wettest.

I agree with the condition of greens being good outside of the ball marks and also agree on the par 3s
