Savy King had a heart attack on the field, almost died, had emergency open heart surgery, and returned to the field less than a year later. Pretty crazy

So… he overcame a decade+ long cocaine addiction and his fear that his insurance payout would be rescinded if he played golf again?

It’s still wild that he “came back” and won, even on LIV, but I am a bit surprised his story puts him in the running for this award.

That's a good thing, and tough to do I'm sure. People celebrated Josh Hamilton and Andre Agassi battling back after addiction. It makes for a good story someone turning their life around.

Side note, an AK range clip video came across my tik tok a few days ago and the dude has a fantastic swing. Never realized how smooth his swing was.

That was in the MLB and ATP tour

Would those stories have been big if it was minor league baseball or the challenger tour?

I will get downvoted to oblivion but the truth sets anyone free: he hasn’t comeback to anything yet

We know how you feel. You ranted about it being a non story until he wins something then he won something and you moved the goalposts and ranted about it being a non story because he only won on LIV. But yet Tiger Woods and plenty of others commented on what a good story it is and he is literally up for nomination as one of the best comeback stories in all of sports for the year.

I'm not downvoting you but they would be deserving. There's not much of a better counterpoint to "This is a non story" than getting nominated b the ESPY's for being one of the best stories

It’s seems kinda crazy. Could you imagine Josh Gordon getting nominated for “Comeback” of the year for playing a great game in the UFL?

That’s not me hating that’s a direct parallel

He got asked to play in a league without any qualification , has yet to actually comeback to any tour he was on before, and is ranked 336 on datagolf or 207 in the world golf rankings

And you compared him to Agassi who came back to 1 in the world with multiple grand slam wins and Josh Hamilton who came back with an MLB MVP

You are the one that needs perspective, not me

I'm not arguing that Anthony Kim came back and won on the top tier of golf I said Agassi and Hamilton because of the drugs, not because of the level of play. The story would have been just as good if he came bac and won on the Korn Ferry tour or DP World Tour. Would it have been even better if it was the PGA Tour? Of course, nobody is arguing that.

Again, there is no argument than can be made that this isn't a story.

Tiger Woods literally said it's a story everyone can relate to and that "you just have to wrap your heart around it."

I'm sorry, but Tiger Woods and the ESPY's opinion of it matter more than a random user on tigerdroppings.

Quite the comeback from being unranked on datagolf a few months ago & was in the 2,000s of OWGR less than a year ago

Neither of those guys took 10+ years off from the sport did they?

You’re trying really hard to act like this wasn’t a great comeback story. That will get you some cool points on a message board I guess

That's actually a valid point

Tiger, Justin Thomas, Luke Donald, and a 100 other non LIV guys all thought it was a story. So yea, point still stands. I think I value Tigers opinion on it a little more than a random tigerdroppings poster who notoriously hates LIV.

I 100% expect one of the females to win the EPSY because of ESPN, but great to see AK get nominated

I think the girl who had the heart attack on the field prob should win it if we’re being honest. Overcoming a drug addiction is a great story but it was was a self-inflicted deal for Kim. Far more men have won the award fwiw. Only 6 of 29 winners have been women

After a self inflicted drug binge which caused him to miss time and concave his face, this is is excellent comeback results on a tour that’s nowhere close to what he left :

Remember, 54 person tour

The Anthony Kim story was ruined the second he came back in truth. We were told of the mythos “Kim shoots low 60s everywhere and beats almost every pro in money games”. Truth is he really isn’t that good . In three years he has had maybe 3 weeks worth of play that would have made an actual cut at a random pga tour event
