Today was my first time playing LaTour

We teed off early this morning and my expectations were sky high due to the reviews I constantly see on TD. Course was in great shape, greens rolled perfect but could be cut lower. We ended up playing one up from the back cause one of the guys in our group is a short knocker. I was really surprised by a couple things:
1. The course is wide open, and I mean wide the frick open. It’s even more open than Bayou Oaks which is really saying something.
2. The greens have almost zero slope to them. They are perfect greens and have great shape to them but I found I rarely had to get the ball outside of the hole. Many people here were comparing them to Squire Creek which makes me think these people have never played Squire.
I can see how people were shooting 62 in the Monday qualifiers out there. Overall for $50 I thought it was a great course but my expectations were ridiculously high. I doubt I would play it for $100, $75 max on a weekend but should really be in the $50-$60 range. It’s impressive what they were able to do with a flat rice field but the views away from the course are not very good. Also, the pro shop and locker room are some of the worst I’ve ever seen for a course that’s trying to charge $100.
Nice course, will play it again but didn’t live up to the hype. Downvotes welcome

The clubhouse is a little embarrassing. Nobody will play it for 100.00, needs to be 50.00.

Yea we drove right past it. Looks like your typical small real estate office that you see in golf course neighborhoods, not a clubhouse.

I’ve never seen this comment made

Did you not play 2,4,8,10,11, 17, and 18?

Sure did. They really reminded me of Bayou Oaks greens in terms of slope just with a little more shape to them. The greens rolled perfectly so I'm not knocking the greens, just surprised at how flat they were is all.
When a course is that open and has greens that are that large with little to no slope the only defense it has is the wind. Without a strong wind I can completely see how tour caliber players were shooting 62 out there.

Did you expect Squire Creek elevation changes through some hardwoods and pines in the middle of a sugarcane field?

I've never heard of the slope of the greens or anything about LaTour being compared to Squire Creek and I have played Squire Creek, they are two totally different golf courses.

Most Monday qualifier medalist on tour usually take 62-64 to win, I assume you broke the course record? If so congrats

I see $68 in the morning and $36 after 3 on the tee time sheet online, not $100, you are also an idiot if you don't play it for the $50 special for May. The course has been open for a month and a half almost after being closed for over 2 years, I'd suspect the guy who just bought the property outright last week will develop it and build a clubhouse with a nicer shitter down the road, I don't think he purchased it to build a nicer WalMart for Raceland.

it doesn't bother me one bit, everyone has their own opinions on golf course design, if it bothered me so bad I'd never play there again because everyone on Tigerdroppings don't like it.

I thought it was perfect.
Why change. Do like the Bluff build a giant clubhouse then go out of business? They had enough trouble without the cost of a big clubhouse.
Only thing I would change is fairway width. I think it would look nicer. Some hole had tons of room and narrow fairways. It would open up fun angles to the greens.
And build a better 17th green. The hole has so much potential.
I do agree $95 on weekends may be a little steep. But I wouldn’t pay more just because they build a nice clubhouse.

You realize it’s modeled after one of the most famous par 3’s in the world, right?

I definitely wasn’t expecting it to Squire like but also didn’t expect them to be Bayou Oaks flat. I was really expecting them to be more like TPC or ET. Now they rolled PERFECTLY which means more to me than anything.
Occasionally it takes 62 to qualify but that is rare. Typically in the 64-66 range. I had a terrible finish to shoot 71 and one of the other guys that played with us shot 70 and is a 2 hcp. Neither of us had ever seen the course. You can spray the ball almost anywhere and still have a shot.
The course has traditionally charged $100 but I’m glad to see they’re running some specials now, that is what drew is away from New Orleans.

This is really what this thread is about isn't it?

Yes I do. Doesn’t mean they got it right.

I would say they got pretty damn close, with a lot more slope on the green than the original
