The one question I have is what purpose does it serve? The top ten don't exactly need the money. I guess you could argue the tour and mid to lower level players need the top end guys to keep drawing attention to the sport and bring in the high purses.
I feel like there is a lot more they could do with 40million to improve the game of golf.
Is all this a reaction to the rumored Premier Golf League?

Encourage players to use social media? I don’t know. I’m 30 but I don’t get into the podcast/FB/twitter/YouTube but I know it draws people into the game. People like Max Homa will continue to roast people swings and people like that. Again, I’m just guessing that is what they want?

Yes. That league was proposing paying the players a guaranteed salary just like other sports, so this is the PGA Tour's counter to that.

Of all the things you could do to change the PGA Tour to hold off the PGL, this has to be well down the list.

the rich get richer
Hell, you might even see Colt Knost pick the sticks back up with the success of his podcast.

This is what it is. PGA is selling out to big tech to chase money.
I would love for Steve Stricker to take this up. His commercial about being a 'savage' was hilarious. He could make the ultimate "dad' social media presence just roasting the idiocy of all this.

I don't think so. The appeal of the PGL was the guaranteed money. You don't have to perform to be paid on that tour. Also, the only way the PGL would be successful is if they got the best of the best to compete on that tour. Now, the PGA Tour is additionally incentivizing the top 10 players to stick around with them which pretty much ends any thoughts of starting up the PGL.

Can't wait to watch Bryson shed 50 pounds this summer for the clicks.
Will we be seeing a lot more Bruce in a thong pics as well? So much potential for over the top system gaming.

I'm sure that's one factor. Funny anecdote is that Jordan Spieth's dad runs MVPIndex which is one of the measurements they will use. My friend works for the company, been around for a decade I think. Funny part is that Jordan has THE worst social media account in golf, its tiger level for lame corporate vanilla content.
