The Mackel used to be such a big deal before Katrina. Had qualifiers and a lot of the Nola area's best players. Tournament barely hung on after Katrina and moved all over the place. From City Park (pre-renovation) to Eastover (pre Katrina apocalypse) to Belle Terre (pre death of a once great place) to Oak Harbor, and finally to Beau Chene before returning to it's original home City Park.

This year Fore Kids took over and there was actually a waiting list to get in. There was a quality field and both the open division and the Senior division had lot's of quality players. Great mix of College players, Mid-Ams, and Sr's.

Golf course was in excellent shape. Not going to find a course, especially a muni, in S. La with fairways and greens better than City Park South this weekend. Greens were perfect and fast. Downhill putts and putts down grain were lightning. The City Park S. conundrum continues as the winning score was 144. Amazing how hard it is to make putts in spite of greens being perfect. A south wind is prevailing and is a really tough wind for the course. Fun to have a golf course in S. La other than Oakbourne where hitting the green in regulation is only half the battle. Get caught napping on those greens and they'll burn you.

Congrats to Fore Kids for putting on a great tournament, City Park for having the golf course in such great shape, and Chris Kerr for a great win. Good young player and a really nice kid.

Pretty cool side note.....Lucas Black (Christopher LaSalle on NCIS New Orleans) shot 75-70 to finish 2nd. Guy is a really good player and a really nice guy.

this tournament was big growing up in New Orleans, glad it's making a return.

Haha...so you can tell the difference between them? Known them for 30 years and still have no clue.

I was out at city park yesterday with some friends hacking around the north course. I figured that wind was going to make the Mackel a lot more interesting. Glad it went off well, hope to play in it next year.

They roll pure and they are pretty quick. They are also possibly the flattest greens I have ever played.

There was talk of this place holding a major championship. The pros would annihilate that place

He was the main character in “Seven Days in Utopia” and you could tell he didn’t have to fake a good swing in the movie.

They’d annihilate any course in Louisiana

It was slightly better than Caddyshack II.

Yep good signs from this year's tourney - hopefully it will stay put and continue the ForeKids partnership and get its feet back under it

With all do respect to Frank Mackel - and I mean that - "The Metro" was such a cool title back in the day

Since this tournament seemed to be successful, it would be cool if Fore Kids would host a 4ball tournament or maybe a modified version of what they do at the Zurich.
