I've got to pass by there for work, is it worth a stop?

Absolutely. Great track. Lots of challenging holes that require less than driver.

Yes! I play it every time I am in the area. Usually pretty empty too. Greens are faster than they look.

Fun course.
A poster here works there and updates the conditions from time to time.
My only ever knock was that a number of the fairways had a decent amount of hard pan, but overall the course is usually in great shape and greens are always nice. One of the better courses in a 1.5 hour radius.

I played in their media day a few years back, I know the architect and he does good work. It's an extreme piece of property but very fun.

This will probably be the best conditions we have ever had. Gonna be a fun year as long as no extreme weather happens. People are noticing too, tee sheet is much busier than it used to be.

Good to hear. I'm playing in a two day tournament there in July. Looking forward to it.

Good luck tomorrow. Let me know what you think about the course. Should be firm haven’t got rain in two weeks.

Thank you! Was +3 tied for 2nd when we went into a weather delay Saturday after 12 holes and came back stiff as an absolute board and tripled the hole I resumed on.
Played better Sunday though and had a good time, just a little disappointed. Guy that won champ flight shot -8
On to the course...
We got there late Friday so the pro shop was closed but they let us take the cart out and play a couple holes to get the feel of the course. It was so weird. Friday evening the greens were extremely spongy and wavy and putts were really bumpy. They looked super healthy but me and my buddy were like this is so weird how they aren't rolling good. Come Saturday they were firmer and rolled super smooth, no complaints at all. I've never seen greens changed overnight like that.
There were 200 people in the tournament and everyone I talked to and played with enjoyed the course and had nothing but good things to say about it. Props to you. Fairways will probably always be a struggle but they were 5x better than the last time I was there and not even worth complaining about.
Next time I play now that I'm more familiar with it I will certainly approach the course different though. I hit less than driver off the tee on numerous holes (#1, #8 and #15) but I'm not hitting driver off #2, #11, or #16 next time either. It just doesn't make any sense to risk it.

The run out with driver will get you in big trouble there.

Number 2 a three wood sets you up fine, number 11 the natural Slope of the hole will put most balls in the same spot and number 16 unless you try to carry the green an iron or three wood are fine. The comment about the spongy greens is odd. I’ve heard it three times now since yesterday, and it’s weird because everyone I’ve talked to said the greens rolled great during the tournament. Curious what my super did overnight to change the firmness.
The winner plays here all the time so safe to say he knows the course inside and out. He went on a serious run to birdie 5 holes yesterday.

I just figured they don't really top dress them. Most courses don't have the money for that. I guess I'm used to such firm greens at my home course I've gotten where I really dislike spongy greens. So after Friday I was like man these greens are going to throw me off but for whatever reason, they were completely different.

31 front nine from the tips in those conditions was incredible. Louisiana champ flight just doesn't have the players that the Dallas champ flight does. Our best, Chuck Spears, former LSU golfer and mini tour guy has the lowest Golfweek Am Tour handicap in the country, +6 I think. He was the only one that was going to have a chance at beating the guy that won but Chuck didn't play.

Hey LSU5508 I have a 10 AM tee time this Thursday and we had another that wants to join us. Can we do a five some? We play fast.
Posted on 7/13/26 at 9:10 pm to SouthlakeTiger
Call the course but on a Thursday we typically accomodate unless the sheet is stacked. Does appear we have a group of 24 playing after you.

We have the best super in East Texas maybe even North Texas and budget allows us to do most of what we want these days. We are building this course to compete with any course in Texas. We are blessed with a fantastic layout and are in the process of building the conditions of top destination courses. We are not all the way there yet but it’s coming.
