I was listening to the Golf Smarter podcast and they had a guy on from Shotscope talking about the product. Naturally, I fell for his marketing and thought it may be a good gift idea for Xmas for my wife to get me. He described it as giving you the ability to play your round normally, and your stats will be ready for you after the round. I thought that sounded great. I love the idea of having accurate stats because I enjoy numbers, but I don't want to add another thing to think about before each shot.

So, I figured I'd bring this up here to see if anyone has experience with it. At $219, it's a hefty price, but if it provides GPS and stat tracking while being simple to use on the course, it may be worth it.

I don't have shotscope but I have Arccos with the second gen sensors that don't require a subscription. Love it so far. Love all of the data it gives you and the strokes gained analytics. When I fist got it I would use my range finder from where my drive landed back at the tee box to confirm yardages and it's super accurate and I haven't had any issues with it on any of the courses I've played. I would buy it again knowing what I know now after using it.

Do you have to input your shot or club selection with Shotscope? They act as if that it is automatic and I think it comes with sensors similar to Arcos, but if so how does it differentiate between regular shots and say practice swings.

I would like stat tracking mainly because I don't typically record GIRs, Fairways, etc during a regular round. I also would wonder how sensors added to your grip like this or Arcos would impact swing weight.

With arccos it is triggered by the sound of the golf ball contact, so practice swings do not register.

Sensor weight is negligible, honestly wouldn’t know the difference if I was blind folded and you handed me a club with or without it.

Hmm good to know. My other thought was what if you are under a tree and take a 3 iron just for a punch that may go 100 yards? Would that distort you yardage for that club, or is there something that factors in swing percentage or something?

My first coach really pushed me to use the scorecard to record my stats. So, my cards post round look like chicken scratch with:
F
G
P
U/D
Yds
Club

Post round take a look at what happened and from there develop a practice strategy for the week or tomorrow. This helped build a strategy for the golf course. Before I even walked onto the course would plot my way, during the practice round play the plot and then make adjustments as necessary.

While this tech is really nice and convenient, you're not going to run a regression and its useless unless you use it religiously.

My point being, a scorecard is free and so is the pencil.

Whenever you do punch out, that shot would be excluded from your Smart Distance via our algorithms. It automatically removes the outliers (like punchouts or shots that hit the cartpath) in the calculations.

It’s not about the overall weight but adding weight to the handle can change the swing weight. For example the weight of oversized grips can affect swing weight. I’m sure it’s negligible but just curious.

I also have the Arccos golf sensors (newest gen). I absolutely love them.

The data it generates and posts on its Dashboard for you to review is awesome, much more than just distances. It shows you what facets of your game you're losing/gaining strokes so you know what to work on, accuracy of each club, and keeps those detailed stats of each round. After so many rounds it unlocks Smart Caddie where the app recommends clubs for each hole based on the hole's distances and your tendencies.

I will second that, yes, even though the sensor gets added to the very end of your club, the weight is practically negligible and I do not feel any sort of shift in balance of the club.

I ave the V2 and love it. Gives me front, middle, back to every green. And tracks every shot. You have to cleanup a few extra shots after the round as it can pick up practice swings. The stats you get and the real average of how far you hit each club is great. I’m looking to upgrade to the v3 for the improved battery.
