I played in a scramble with 3 legit scratch/plus handicappers... I was playing to a 5 at the time and I was the D-Player. All are pretty long hitters and excellent putters.

4 Eagles (1 on a par 4)
1 Double Eagle on a Move Up Hole (250 yds out)
1 Par
12 Birdies

Shot -23

We had 1 Mulligan per person and we still had 1 remaining after our round because we drained a 20 footer on back to back holes and hit it to a foot on the last hole.

Best I have ever done outside of that round was -20 a couple of times.

Wasn't my company's tournament. I was just an extra they picked up the day of the tournament. My friend just said do you want to golf for free today and I said, uhhh yes. So I stayed out of it. And there wasn't any kind of prize or anything. I think the winning team got a small plaque or something, but that was it.

Played in a 4 man one time where they paired 2 teams (8 players) on one hole. Each team kept the others scores.

The flow was fine because they were able to space out the teams. The winning score was -12.

This was the best way I've ever seen a 4 man scramble run.

You’re only cheating yourself if you don’t cheat in a scramble

I know you can't judge a book by it's cover, but if that winning teams score was 20 under, I'm Tiger Woods.

I have personally played on a four man that shot -21 to win. We eagled 3 of 4 par 5s and I sunk a 30 ft putt on 9 to go to -21. We had a ringer team though.

If you can create your own teams and don’t have to have to have an ABCD group, 3-4 single digit handicappers can easily shoot -17-22. Especially when the course is playing 6500 and you have mulligans and other gimmicks thrown in.

Have an observer on every par 5. Have them watch each team play the hole, counting the shots.

Do this but don’t tell the teams until after scorecards are turned in. DQ any teams with incorrect scores.

Probably wouldn’t help the fundraising though...

I like to look up the names of the four people on the winning team. More times than not there won’t be a single person that’s even registered in GHIN. It takes several great players to reach -18 or better, especially without mulligans. The par 3s is what makes or breaks it though.

My favorite is when you play behind a group that putts in their 4 man rotation and when the 4th guy misses the first guy steps right up and they go through the rotation again. Zero conversations about who wants to burn a mulligan or who has a mulligan left, just get up and hit again until you make it.

Play a few a year with 3 below 4 indexes and one around 7 who hits everything 300+ and putts well. Depending the course you have eagle looks on all the par 5s plus max mulligans can routinely get it to -20.

Used to play one a few years back that you could buy a length of string and cut a piece to extend the hole.
