Lol you’re being a little intense. I don’t think anyone is saying he should have done it or isn’t in the wrong. Again, the punishment doesn’t fit the crime here lol.

What is the proper punishment for shop lifting and trespassing? Imagine someone farming, and someone just out there helping themselves to whatever they are growing? Imagine someone fishing in a private pond? Imagine someone hunting in your woods?

Not 4 cops and criminal trespassing. Personally it should be up to the course. If it was my property I’d want to be up to me. And 4 cops and criminal trespassing on a 69 year old man is ridiculous.

that's all fine and dandy. But who are you gonna call at LSU on a holiday to ask how to handle the trespassing? As to the 4 cops. Its LSU. If it was LSU PD, I promise you 4 officers showed up cause 3 were bored to death and looking for something to do. I'd bet the charge is the lowest they can write. And they probably HAVE to charge the old guy with something. It'll all get thrwon out anyway most likely. Unless he was belligerent.
bottom line is, don't go help yourself to a closed course and you don't have the hassle. Even if you're an old man just "hitting a few balls".

Seems reasonable.

That’s 100 more than they’ve spent on any green in 3 years

Thank for all the banter, but I’d like to point out a few things. I was hoping maybe someone else has been criminally “busted” in the golf universe

-he absolutely knew this is illegal and he accepts his charge. He accepted the risk for a little on course practice

-I will tell him to wear golf attire to court and there’s a good chance he will. He has nothing to lose if the ticket cost is low

- he is a big sweeper and barely takes a divot if any at alls. He has an 8* driver and still hits it a mile in the air

Sure in a perfect world you would love to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. But you don’t know the history of the course. They may have a serious problem with trespassers tearing up the course. It all depends on the context. If you are going to trespass you are at their mercy so you are rolling the dice.

The cops are supposed to be able to recognize this?
