Will be moving to the northeast rotating locations between NY, PA, and MA.

I want to hit some of the nice public courses up there. Any recommendations to hit during the year?

Bethpage Black has to be on your bucket list.
FWW, Bethpage Red was also listed in the Top 100 you can play.

Establish residency in NY to get a NY ID. You can then play all the public courses for a fraction AND make tee times online.

Eta: Montauk Downs & Ferry Point are both legit. As noted above, Bethpage is a must.

Are you limiting you sights to courses around NYC and/or 1 hour from the city? Basically around the I-95 corridor?

You then may want to consider playing Atunyote at Turning Stone Casino in-between Utica and Syracuse. It is a Tom Fazio course and was a stop on the PGA Tour for a couple of years. There are two other 18-hole courses on-site, but Atunyote is the best of the three.

I plan to play one of the other ones (Shenandoah) in early spring because it better fits into my budget and the course is a bit more forgiving.

Here's a list Golfpass 2022 which has all three Turning Stone courses in the Top 8, with previously named Bethpage Black and Montauk Downs on there as well.

There's lots of Robert Trent Jones courses up here, as he got his start in the Central NY area. Green Lakes State Park Golf Course is an inexpensive state-run course (maybe $45 with cart on a weekend) he designed back during the Great Depression. Also the course at Colgate University (great shape) and Cornell (not in great shape) were also designed by him.

Have connections for Philadelphia Cricket, Aronomink and Shinnecock. Looking forward to it, one day I'll get to Shinnecock no idea when. The Philly courses will happen within the next 2 years. Merion and Pine Valley are not going to happen
