Who understands it?
Net double bogey is max per hole now.
Use the phone app to record the score each hole as it factors into your overall handicap score now.

I already use GolfLogix to score and keep track of certain stats as fairways hit, number of putts per hole and other things. The new USGA app is supposed to do the similar things, but the hole by hole score will factor into your handicap. Which I am told is a good thing. Handicaps should be going down with the new system

What will make it go down is the 8 best scores instead of 10 best scores of last 20.

It also will update daily.

What I have gathered is with a 15 handicap, I can take a triple on the 15 hardest rated holes on the course I am playing. The last 3 holes rated the easiest, I take double as a max. We are asked to use the GHIN/USGA App to score hole by hole. Did I get that right?

Seems like score by hole is an option, not a requirement, but the rest of it is correct, based on what I've read and seen.

My handicap went down 2 strokes with the new system. Went from 4.4 to 2.4. Not really sure I understand why that happened either

That's the biggest drop I've heard of. Your 9th and 10th best scores must have been atrocious.

6.7 down to 5.9. I have no clue how the new system works.

The most likely reason for your index to drop is because they only count your best 8 of your past 20 rounds now. It used to be best 10. It's also calculated a little differently as well.

Explain this to me. Do I need to shoot better than my course handicap for my handicap to go down?

No. You have to shoot better than your last round counting toward your handicap at the time.

ETA: Last meaning furthest back not most recent

Two more questions:

If my handicap is a 5, but the course handicap is a 1, I only take triple bogey max on the hardest hole on the golf course, not the 5 hardest, right?

Second- this is a more amorphous question, but I've never known how to handle it. I probably log one or two rounds a month, at most, where I show up, chip, putt, and hit some range balls. Most of my rounds are quick nines right after work where I don't even take two off the first tee, much less warm up. I've been plugging these rounds in, but they aren't indicative of how I can actually play, but I don't think I can not put them in just because I didn't take the time to warm up. What's the consensus on what I should be doing with these quick 9s if I'm trying to get the most accurate handicap I can?

Are you playing alone? Are you allowed to enter rounds where you play alone?

I would say that if you are playing 9, enter your score. You're playing. The lack of warming up is on you.

Yes its based on course handicap not your local handicap.

Its up to you, I would plug them in.

By the rules, you're not allowed to post scores where you are playing by yourself. They changed that a couple of years ago.

Dang. I did not know that.

Kind of alleviates me from having to make a decision on those rounds, then.

Seems like the new USGA GHIN app is going to make it where apps such as 18 Birdies etc are no longer needed.

18 Birdies needs to put a handicap calculator on their app. It seems like a great app otherwise.

But you need to input your scores into the other app to track your handicap and it is offering stats now, so why input into to two different apps.
