I just ordered the new 25 TM P790's. Couldn't believe the difference in my #'s vs my gamer Mizunos. I didn't even want to like the TM, but couldn't walk away from the numbers I was putting up. Shot dispersion was like I was a youngster again, very tight window. Can't wait for them to get here

Go to a reputatable golf shop or club, and get fitted. Hit different sets and find what is best for your game. It really does matter.

Most places will give you a discount on the clubs if you go through the fitting and buy from them. I did it a couple of years ago and the discount was more than what the fitting session cost me.

I am now more consistent than I've been in 20 years.

I just bought a set of Elyte X’s…..easily the most improvement I’ve seen in my game with any club purchase outside of maybe the first Big Bertha driver I bought at least 25-30 yrs ago.

I’ve been looking at the TM 790’s but am wondering if I need a more player-friendly set of irons.

I am a 16 handicap with 20 year-old clubs. Mind if I ask your handicap?

When I was in your position, I bought a used set of Taylormade Speed Blades on ebay. They were perfect. Check out those or the RSi 2s.

I'm about a 10. I haven't kept a handicap in years, dunno why? I currently play Mizuno MP 54's. I just can't compress them like I used to, I just got to the big 51 in age and have lost a few mph in speed. The TM were so easy to hit. I would definitely try a fitting session. I went in wanting Mizunos again, would be my fourth set. Fitter took the JPX out of my hands and put the 790's and I was striping it. Great shot dispersion. Clubs should be in today! Woohoo!

Thanks for responding, gplayerjr. I’m 59-years-old and have never been fitted. I’m in Baton Rouge, so I’m thinking of going to the local GOLFTEC.

Sounds like you really liked your fitting. I travel for work, so I can get fitted pretty much anywhere in Louisiana or Texas. Who did you go to for yours?

I did mine with golfballs.com in Lafayette. Gene is the man there, been knowing him since way back Acadian Hills days. Fitting is way to go, clubs cost so much now that it makes no sense to buy a new set of clubs without a proper fitting. I was shocked at all the different shaft options. Craziest part is I went from dynamic gold S300 to DG X 100 tour issue. I couldn't believe it, was swinging the 7 iron at 93 mph, he said yeah, you're a X shaft all day. Once he put that shaft in I was sold. I even jokingly accused him of beefing up the trackman to "sell mode". ??

Game improvement irons would be my suggestion for the casual player.

I would never recommend my “set” to anyone, as I have clubs from 4 different manufacturers (5 if you count the putter).

Capital Hill, where I play has manufacturer days. You can hit literally anything during those and find what feels good. I expect there are courses in most states that have similar events. A real plus to this is hitting balls on my home course range. You can really compare to what you have.

That’s how I found the U505 long irons I use. Never would have thought of using them before hitting them there.

The guy shoots in the upper 90's and 100's and you're telling him to get blades?

Those arent blades. They’re a game improvement iron

Wow, that's a beauty of a GI iron. Hollow body I'm assuming.

Yes. And a thick sole.

The takomo 301’s are the forged players irons.

Just switched from TM stealth to srizon zxi5. The difference is amazing.
Picked up about 10 yds per club

No random flyers

I can actually feel where on the club face contact is made. And can adjust mid round without question

Confidence is crazy high with these.

Takomo 101 Irons. Most forgiving irons I've ever hit. Can't beat them for the price.

I am looking to get new clubs. I am currently hitting a Wilson starter set my parents got me when I was 16, which is almost 20 years ago now. I typically shoot in the low 100’s, to upper 90’s on my best day. I play about 20 rounds a year, give or take. I am wondering what are the best bang for my buck clubs and is it worth getting fitted.

I am in the same boat. There are so many clubs to try out there. How do you know if you are getting best deal for your game when you are only going to try a small fraction of clubs on the market?

I could not really say as I've never hit any of the previous models. I played with a guy the other day who has the previous version and he loved them. I've got 2 rounds with mine...I was stupid and didn't do range time so my distances are off. I'm going dial in this weekend on range. Love the clubs though, feels good to be compressing the ball easier again
