It has its moments and can be busy at times. But mainly because everyone is playing the same 9 holes. We played Saturday morning/afternoon in a little under four hours. And that included a twenty minute break watching some drunk idiots drive their cart into a pond lol

Edit: One thing to note is that putting is basically a non-factor out there. The greens are shag carpet. But it’s a fun little narrow course for them to help learn their swing

based on where you live Santa Maria would be a good choice...
driving range...
nice, large practice putting green...
chipping area next to the range...

I see adults take kids out to the course and have to end up letting groups through so it's important that they get comfortable hitting the ball at a range before they get on the course so they don't get an uncomfortable experience their first few rounds....

Beaver Creek has best practice facility that is never crowded. Santa Maria is always crowded and they use mats 99% of the time. J.S. Clark would be my choice of course to practice on.

That’s sad. They have brand new carts.

You may be joking, but LSU is exactly where I’m bringing him once it warms up. It’s slow, kind of shitty nowadays, and I think it’s the perfect place to start teaching him.

Wherever you go, don’t go on the weekends, if possible. Late afternoon weekdays pretty much open at most places.

After seeing reviews and newish pictures of the LSU course -- holy hell, man. They've let that place go so badly! I haven't been to that course in probably 12 years and though it wasn't perfect then, it was still decent. The reviews and pictures on Google paint a horrendous picture of that course. How can LSU allow their course to look like that? What an embarassment.

I'm taking my son to Web this weekend, probably Saturday. If it's busy, then it's busy. So what, we'll just have to let people play through while I take my time with him. Clubs came in this week and last week so I'm so pumped about getting back into the game, and even happier to be sharing this hobby with my son now. It's been so long since I've played that we're both going to be terrible

Webb will be packed. Try Clark, City Park, or Fennwood. Don’t be that guy.

Noted. I see good stuff about City Park too so I’ll take that advice.

Go this Sunday afternoon around 2 or 3. The courses will be much less crowded with the Super Bowl happening a little later in the day.

It's an easy, fun track with some hills. It's also very walkable.

City is the place while it lasts. Gotta get the rounds in before the running club lady and the business report guy manage to bulldoze it.

Update:

My son and I have now played City Park course twice and had a great time each time, minus our horrendous play .

I took a break from golf for nearly 15 years, and it is so obvious! I slice the shite out of the ball nearly every drive and when I don't slice it, I hit it terribly, causing a roller out to about 75 yards. I'm the fool on the course slicing into the nearby fairway and my son is right there with me .

Each round, I started off strong shooting par on the first couple holes and then the wheels absolutely fell off in dramatic fashion, resulting in shooting 8 on a par 4 lol. My son was even worse, but he literally never played before these two rounds. I'm surprisingly patient with him while trying to teach him, however I feel silly trying to teach him when I myself am screwing up so badly.

We both decided that next weekend we will spend lots of time at a driving range working on some things. I need to work on correcting my slice because if I can, I'm going to be driving the ball 250 yards straight down the fairway since distance isn't usually my problem on drives. Buddy needs to work on contacting the ball the first swing . Chipping and putting is a sore subject for us as well. We completely stink

All that said, we had an absolute blast and can't wait to get back out there. City Park course is great and y'all were right, it does appear very beginner friendly. There were a couple assholes who got impatient behind us so we let them go, but for the most part most were understanding.

So happy to be getting back into the game.

Highly reccomend getting him some lessons. Golf is the only sport he will play the rest of his life.
