Inferior equipment helps the good players, as better equipment just helps blur weaknesses. It would have been an advantage for tiger to have inferior equipment during his time

Jack played with a ball that almost refused to go straight and Tiger played with a ball that wants to go straight.

Balata balls would go out of round alot.

What does any of this have to do what he said?

Or atre you just trying to act smart like you're the only person that knows what balata is?

Tiger did beat some greats down the stretch of majors. The likes of Rocco Mediate, Woody Austin, Chris Dimarco and Bob May. Let’s not forgot that He also couldn’t close the deal against Ed the Grip Fiori.

Remember when you said Tiger would never win another major and if he did, you’d quit posting here?

Why did you omit him beating Brooks and DJ in ‘19? Was it because you don’t remember that because you were seeing red for a week after?

You have a personality defect.

I don't know how old that gentleman is, he may have never encountered one.

I bought two sleeves of tour balata the other day. I told a person that was younger (mid to late 20s would be my guess) than me about them, and they had no clue what a balata was.

Take it easy, Bud. I didn't say you did. And I didn't say 'my' 3 were better... But we both know. I guess I could also sub in Tom Watson or Seve, if Arnie gets tired.

The whole discussion is amusing, never ending, and of course, unanswerable... Shouldn't matter, they were both great players but in slightly different times. And the times were different in SO many ways.

Have a good evening.

I bought them so my buddy and I could play his son and teammate. They are seniors in high school and have never hit one. They are both crazy good so it will be fun to watch.

Was his competition using the same equipment? If so(which of course it is),that’s an advantage to Jack, as the worse the equipment the better it helps the more talented golfer

Y’all are acting as if Jack used balata balls and old irons while his completion had pro V1s and Modern clubs

Not my intention.

We were considering Jack vs Tiger which is impossible really.

Both are giants in the game and we should be content with that.

You should go to a pawn shop and get a couple of persimmon woods to get the whole experience.

I hate this debate. So hard to even determine this. Tigers backside prime derailed by injuries and if you ask Jack he would have shattered that record. But he didn’t. I honestly can’t really choose because you can make such a strong case for both players. If you force me to choose? It’s Tiger. He literally revolutionized the game. The type of golf he played in 2000 was the greatest golf ever played on this planet ever. It was perfection and the type of golf that will never be played again. It was that of a golfing God. That there nobody can argue.

I stand by the opinion that Tiger would've won at least 5 more majors had half his career not been derailed by injuries.

I don’t have any problem buying that, but he would’ve trailed off by the early / mid 2010’s anyway. He mostly missed that late 2008 - 2011 window and maybe a little of 2014 - 2017. The depth of the professional game was just too good by about the early 2010’s to keep on the same pace (that depth came about largely thanks to Tiger). He was the best player in the world in 2012 and 2013 and didn’t win any majors during that stretch.

The game is far too global and far too deep for any single player or group of players to control it like clusters of players did in past generations. That only one player has won more than 6 majors since the 1970’s is a testament to that whereas a bunch of guys did it between the 1920’s and 1970’s. It’s what makes Tiger’s feats so spectacular and singular.

The greatest measure of a professional golfer was and still is his majors record. Not only does Jack’s major wins trump anything and anyone his overall majors record is just as equally as impressive

18 wins, 19 seconds, nine thirds, eight fourths and two fifth-place finishes
