Considering our annual golf trip in Lake Charles this year.

Anyone have recommendations on L’Auberge v Golden Nugget as home base?

Golden Nugget looks like it might have the better amenities (rooms, pool, restaurant), and maybe better golf course?

We’re not incredibly apt group of golfers, so we’d rather have home base be the better part of the trip, so if that means driving to play Contraband but coming back to Golden Nugget, we’d do that

Both courses for sure. Nugget is much more expensive to play. Contraband Bayou is only $59 on Sunday I believe. It’s supposed to rain Friday, Nugget is your best bet there, it’s dries out much better.

I was staying in LC for a business trip close to the casinos and got to play a round one day. I chose GN and really enjoyed the course....BUT....their pool area is located close to the clubhouse and is surrounded by a privacy brick wall. The pool area behind the wall seemed huge. I could see the lights on the top of a stage set up and the sounds of extreme partying lasted from the time I pulled up to the course to the time when I left. I couldn't see what was going on but it sure sounded like they were having a much better time than me....and I enjoyed my round!

the casino's are directly next to one another. there is even a boardwalk behind the casino along the water that connects the 2. either casino for Homebase will work since both are easily accessible. GN has SaltGrass, Lillies, Draft Kings Sports bar, Landry's, Vic&Anthony's, Claim Jumper, Grotto, and Cadillac. L'Auberge has Ember, Asia, Drago's, BarStool Sports bar. GN has a swim up bar and the lazy river & water slides is seperate from main pool. as far as Golf, I will always say GN, but i'm a bit Biased. there is a big price difference. GN is $129.00, not sure what L'Auberge price is these days. Koasati Pines is about 50 minutes North, but is another great course. if it rains, GN is best bet since we are Sand Capped on Tees and Fairways.

You say "we are". Do you happen to be with the property? If so, would love to talk with you more about it!

I'd stay at GN, course is definitely better, but pricey. I find the hotel to be nicer as well.

As another mentioned, it is definitely worth the drive to Kinder to go and play Koasati. It's the best course in the area IMO.

I haven't been back to LC since Laura, but before that I really enjoyed Gray Plantation.

Haven't played the new Mallard Cove, but would imagine it's a great loop for the price.

The National is Westlake is also a nice course for the price.

If you can get on at LCCC, definitely worth it as well, but you will need a member. Although I like Gray Plantation better. LCCC has the caddyshack type of vibes, so it's kind of sweet.

Went last weekend! Played at the nugget Friday and Saturday. Both times were twilight prices. $70.00. GN was in great shape as always. No driving range FYI
Contraband was hosting the WAPT all week and it rained so bad early Saturday morning that they cancelled the tourney Saturday. Played there Sunday and course was in great shape again. Some of the greens has some thick patches of grass growing on them (no poa) but another type. But didn’t effect the putts ! Just a little darker. Sunday price is $59.00 to play. Do have a driving range here. Enjoy
