Got some buddies coming from Texas and Miss. Looking to meet in the middle around Lafayette for some golf. What are the best 3 course to go and play. Willing to pay for great courses.
Is Oakbourne Private?

Cane Row- New Iberia
Wetlands- Lafayette
The Farm- Carencro

None are that great.

Yes

Maybe consider meeting in Lake Charles and playing one of the casino courses, or Kinder and Kosati. Kosati is always in great shape.

Oakbourne and Le Triomphe are the best in the area, but both are private. I'd rank the public courses as follows...

1. Wetlands
2a. Cane Row
2b. The Farm
4. Vieux Chenes
5. Muni

tbh the top three are the only ones worth playing and none are worth traveling for.

Wetlands is your best option for public. Cane Row would be my second suggestion. The farm is a nice course as well but only open to public after 12 if I'm not mistaken

Cane Row is the old Squirrel Run. Only 18 holes.

Now cane row. It is the original squirrel run layout with less trees. I played out there on Sunday and it was decent.

#13 can’t possibly be part of the original layout. Yes I’m still mad about it

It is. It was actually harder because there was a forest left that blocked most of the hole.

ETA: Are we talking the old 13 or the new? They switched the nines.

I haven’t played any of them recently so not sure of current conditions but as far as layout the Farm is the most challenging. Wetlands is a pretty easy course and if it’s in good shape it’s really fun. Haven’t played Cane Row since it was still squirrel run but it’s a decent layout. Bayou bend is fun if you just wanna drink beers and listen to music

Whichever one was number 13 when I played it about a month ago. It was a hermaprodite hole where you played from the tee box of another old hole to the green by the church steeple. Had to hit a low hook that flew at least 200 but if it went 230 you were in the shite. Or you had to hit something high over some trees but you were playing away from the hole. Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen

That is the original number four. It was a dogleg left with trees on both sides. It looked like it was carved in a forest. It looks totally different now. I hit 3 wood and 50*.

I've seen worse golf holes....The tee box is back to the original location. The golf course is in excellent shape. Just recently there were 76-2 man teams for the Jimmy P invitational.....That alone says a lot about the golf course. The nines are reversed. Pace of play is better. Come out and play boys!

Yep Cane Row is a much better place to play and its getting better each week...new bridge on #18(old #9) will be in place by next Wednesday...maybe that hole will be shut down for 1 day but the new bridge is much needed...Hell Hugh could have spent 2-3 million on new irrigation system ...cart paths ...clubhouse...but he's spent the money on getting greens in good shape ...the fairways in good shape...with good cash flow the improvements to Cane Row will happen...nothing wrong with being 3rd fiddle to Oakbourne or LT..actually its the better deal of the 3!

1. Wetlands
2. Farm d'Allie

Those are really the only 2 good public courses here. If you don't mind driving the extra 45 minutes to Kinder I would meet up at Kosati. Great course that is always in immaculate shape.

I rope hooked a hybrid and should have had a flip wedge but the counts in front of us stole my ball. Granted I talked to a buddy who played in that 4 ball and they played it from a different tee box than the day I played it. So it sounded like it wasn’t quite as dumb
