Hey my fellow golfers. I just realized that there was a golf board on TD!!!

Hope you all don't mind if a Horn fan joins in. I am not very good at golf, just average.

Index is 15 but I have broken 80 twice this year. 75 is my best score this spring.

Cannot hit the ball out of my shadow, avg drive is around 220 but I have a pretty good short game and my irons from 7 to my wedges keep me from blowing up.

Did get frustrated in September and finally took my first golf lesson on Oct 1st. Been practicing and will play my first round tomorrow. No expectations as I know some of my bad habits will raise their ugly head.

I wish. I am a public golfer.

Shadow Glen, Star Ranch, Forest Creek and Blue Bonnet are my tracks. Tomorrow I got an invite to play Georgetown Country Club ( Berry Creek ) so that will be about as fancy as I can get.

By the way, Blue Bonnet is going to close because the City of Austin is being a chode and won't let them have water. It really is just a land grab by some developer that greased some palms at the city council or mayors office.

Glad you found the board, there are some pretty good discussions here. Austin is a cool golf town. I stayed at the Omni resort one year while attending Match Play and it was great. Really enjoyed the Fazio Canyons course, which is the only course I got to play on that trip. I need to make another trip out that way and play all of those course. I also got to play ACC once and it was a great experience. Once of the funnest designs I've ever played.

I've heard great things about Austin Golf Club and it's on my bucket list. The people I know that have played both AGC and ACC say it makes the country club look like a muni

Don't sell yourself short. In my foursome I am the hacker, one shoots high 60's low 70's, one always around 74 to 78 and one that is coming off an injury and has steadily gone from mid to high 80's down to mid seventies.

I was just stagnant around 85 to 87 with some flashes of low 80's. Those two low rounds were because my short game and my putting were on fire.

I am just now trying to better my tee to manageable iron shot into the green game. Get me at 6500 or more yards and I am struggling.

Amazing how much a short game can keep you in the 80's but I want more and that takes length and consistency off the tee box.

Hopefully one day I will get to play one of those tracks.

Austin is just so lucky, we have great public golf and then we can just jump in our cars and head to San Antonio area for more.

No real need to be a member anywhere unless you like that kind of golf. Me, I am a wanderer, yeah I am a wanderer, I wanderer round.....

I get bored playing the same course over and over, that and I hope that a change of scenery makes me play better. Usually not.

Now that I know this board is here you guys hit me up if any of you are in the Austin area.

Can't get you on any fancy courses but can show you a couple of gems in the area..... and one hard arse course that will make you cuss and think of quitting.

Sorry I missed a bunch of you coming down for the LSU Texas game, my bad. Hope you all had fun but I know you had to suffer from the heat. Maybe my areas humidity was not quite as bad as NO or Baton Rouge area, hell Houston for that.

Seriously. I’m not sure you know what a handicap is. @RTM

I don't have an official handicap, it was just a guess on how many over I shoot.

I might be closer to a 12 then if it makes you happy. I don't play tournaments and don't gamble much and when we do play it is only for beers and I play straight up with my group. I also play multiple courses and don't have time to keep up with the slope rating and my scores to do a proper calculation.

All good man. I’d guess with shooting a 75 and some other low scores you’re lower. If you get the GHIN app and pay the annual fee it makes the handicap process easy.

My career round is a 76 which I’ve shot a few times. I’m typically low-mid 80’s with some upper 70s and upper 80s sprinkled in. I’m an 8.7 right now so you’re probably around there.

Your game sounds similar to mine. If I ever get to Austin I’ll have to hit you up.

Trust me, I have got my share of 90's mixed in with those other rounds. My worse round this year was a 98 at Forest Creek. I can only break 90 there 1 out about 5 tries.

Hopefully I don't have to worry and start shooting scratch by next year.

How does someone who doesn't have a home course go about getting an official handicap anyhow?

Edit: I see that GHIN app recommendation. Is it easy to use? I will check it out for sure.

Just sign up through the GHIN app and yes it’s very easy. Unfortunately you’re probably going to start losing some money because 15 sounds like an unintended sand bag.

Not so fast. My 99 today would get me started on the right path.

Took a mulligan on the first tee so I cheated anyway.

Goodness the greens were fast, breaking and just punished you. Way too many strokes on the green. Had fun, that is all that counts.

Don't see scratch coming anytime soon. Going back for another lesson with my longer clubs, 3 wood thru 6 iron. My 7 and under were dang good, cannot complain.

Going to watch Texas maybe beat up on Kansas. Maybe, wouldn't surprise me if we lost....

Google Golf Digest handicap. You can sign up for free with an email and figure out your cap. I did it for a bit before joining a club that uses GHIN.

You’re probably high-single digits. Remember your handicap isn’t an average and half of your scores get tossed so those 90s rounds wouldn’t factor in.
