I’ve got the RBZ stage 2 driver, I really like it, been playing it since 2014 I believe. I hit that damn thing pretty far and straight (well when it’s not straight I’m not blaming the club )

Are the newer drivers significantly better?

If you play it well age is irrelevant.

Rick Shields picked up like 18 yards of distance over a 20 year span in driver tech.

That being said, the new TM is advertised at being at least 392 yards further based on their marketing scheme where every driver they released was either a percentage OR actual yardage increased based on the last.

I know the old advice, if you hit it well why switch? I’m not saying I’m getting a new driver just trying to figure out how much better they have become in the last 7 years

Maybe 5-10 longer when you make the perfect swing but your average will go way up because the new stuff is much more forgiving.

Gotcha, I will say I don’t miss hit with my driver distance wise often, A perfectly struck drive for me carries ~260 and I would say my bad swings still carry 240-250 they are just not close to the target

If you do buy a new driver, pull the shaft out of your current one just in case. My biggest regret in the pursuit for better driver is doing the whole "fitting thing" but being unable to replicate the fitted numbers. Got rid of old driver that I hit much better and I attribute that to the shaft that was in int.

That’s good advice, I’ve always been a believer that the shaft is just as if not more important on the drivers in the club head. Based on the replies I’ve heard in this thread so far I don’t think I’m looking at getting a new driver yet. I like my club and I get plenty of distance out of it, and most of my bad shots I blame on myself not the club

I have a golf buddy who hits the same driver. He bought a used R1 from a friend and couldn't hit it as good. He was unable to hit his draws or fades on demand like he does with the RBZ. He swapped the shaft on the R1 and the grip and it didn't help.

I now own a TM R1 and he has his RBZ back and killing me on the golf course as usual.

Is your buddy in his late 50’s? First name starts with a B? I think your buddy might be a family friend

That would be him. Hits straight as an arrow when he wants.

He’s my favorite guy to play golf with, takes absolutely no time to hit, walks up to the ball, sizes up his shot, takes his swing, his whole routine takes like 5 seconds and then he shoots a 70

Yeah, he is definitely fast with his setup and swing. Played Copper Mill with him on father's day.

I hit my RBZ gen1 5wood farther than most people’s driver. If you’re hitting it well, keep it.
