to me this is the biggest difference in a professional from an everyday amateur.
all tour pros have incredible tempo and that is how they are so consistent.

Easiest method will be the tour tempo app (or similar) or use a youtube video to find which tempo works for your swing.
I like to feel like I'm pausing at the top, but in reality, I'm not.

Ready…as I draw club back
Aim….at the top of my swing
Fire…at ball impact
I say it every swing besides short chips and putting. Slows me down drastically.

I say Ernnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiieeee (to top of back swing and pause), then Els for the downswing.

I got one of those Gforce swing trainers. Really have to be pretty smooth with your tempo to actually be able to hit the ball. Highly recommend.

I posted this drill on here in another thread a few weeks ago.
Really worked for me.
ETA: starts talking about timing around 3:30 mark

I sing Shaboozey songs in my head while I swing

Towel drill or orange ball thing. By far the best tools for feeling lag and tempo that I’ve found.

I try to keep the same, "slow" feeling in backswing and downswing to the ball. After the contact is when I tell myself I can get after it. Keeps me patient and smooth through impact. I've added a good bit of distance since I started doing this approach.
My usual swing thought is "slow is smooth and smooth is fast"

Metronome app & ear buds
Been using metronome(not app) for years, was how I was taught tempo by Jack Slocum, Heath's(former PGA Tour player/winner) dad, easy as 1, 2, 3...

This may be a dumb question but where are you at for each "click"? Is one beginning takeaway and two is at the top and 3 is beginning downswing with 4 being at impact?

That's neat. I use breathing. Breath in slowly as I draw the club back slowly, get to the top, hold breath, and then swing away.

1) takeaway/backswing, 2) set at top/downswing, 3) impact w/ball
