Planning a golf/LSU baseball trip to Houston in a month. I’ve seen some old posts about the golf club of Houston and the 2 wildcat courses being great courses. I would say that those are at the top of my list, along with memorial park. Has anyone played any courses in the area within the past couple of months that are in amazing condition? Thanks in advance

Gus Wortham and Wildcat courses are doing well.

If you can get on Memorial Park, be prepared to pay over a hundred.

Blackhorse courses are always in good shape.

Everything could change if we get a big freeze.

Be prepared to pay over $130. The prices there have skyrocketed and I don't know why.

I would play Eagle Point in Mont Belvieu on the way in or out of town

Dont play wildcat. Landfill, windy, blind shots.

Wildcat is a windy landfill with blind shots. However, it oddly offers good views of the city, is close, has elevation change and normally in good shape. I wouldn’t exclude it but I would play the highland course.

Would help if someone has a GPS of the course on their phone.

I actually like the Lakes Course better at Wildcat.

The Houston area really needs another Golf Course.

I will never get my firs time playing down there. They paired us with a single who had a laminated booklet he made from Google map images. It seems Wildcat would do well to either make a good yardage book (maybe they have one) or put GPS in the carts.

I get it,. The Highlands Course is more tricked up that the Lake and a range finder only helps so much.

The Par 5 on the back by the oil derrick is just silly to me, you hit a tee shot and it could end up on a gravel path and get lost.

The Lakes is more open and fair to me. Some interesting par 3's on it too.

Played Memorial Thursday and the guy in pro shop said they now had yardage books. Cool, I’ll take one. He said it was $40. Uhhh, pass.

Gus Wortham is in very good shape and is a blast to play.

Gus used to be a goat ranch but always a cool layout. Haven’t played it since the renovations.

Gus is really nice now.

Finishing holes are great.

Where else can you tee off to mariachi music in the background.

Finish golfing, drive down 45 to Mambo's and have some ceviche and cold beer.

Our regional office is within 5 minutes from Gus. Have been meaning to bring the sticks and play it and will eventually. Looks like a different course post-reno as some have referenced.

Since Covid hit, golf has become extremely popular. I guess they are taking advantage of the boom. However, it doesn't seem like the cost bump is affecting Blackhorse at all, they stay busy. I still would recommend Blackhorse but personally would scratch Wildcat if it was me. I would much rather play the Wilderness down in Lake Jackson and like somebody else mentioned, Eagle Point in Month Belvieu. There is also a pretty underrated 18 hole course in Anahuac that is right off I-10 that is usually in great shape and is silly cheap to play. It is called Chambers County CC.

My brother in law played there with a member recently. He said their strategy is to make the membership affordable and price out non-members.

Cypresswood Traditions and Golf Club of Houston were great tracks last time I played them. It's been a while though, so not sure on current conditions at either.

Played Traditions 2 weeks ago and it was in very average shape. The entire property just feels old and dirty. It's a shame cause I love that course.

Hate to hear that about Cypresswood. Use to love the Cypress and the Creek courses back in the day.

Was hoping that the Tradition would bring them back to glory.

Never forget that I had my bag stolen off the bag rack outside of the Cypress clubhouse with the big picture window and nobody saw anything. The Pro at the time was a real prick about it.

Must be getting old, I hate driving that far from Sugarland now to play golf. Use to love to go play Bentwood in Porter back in the day too.

Anyone play Woodforest Fish Creek lately ?

Did Eagle Pointe ever close and fix their drainage issues ?

Not sure about that. Honestly, I don't think so. That place is like a sponge after it rains.

The place in Porter is now called Oakhurst. I was a PDP there up until I rejoined Kingwood CC recently. It was a borderline goat ranch with almost zero maintenance but you could damn near park at the driving range which was handy.
