Houma/Thibodaux Golf

My teenage daughter is going to be at a volleyball camp in Thibodaux in a couple of weeks. I’ve got to have something to do on a Saturday. Where can a north LA guy play a decent round of golf in the Houma/Thibodaux area?

LaTour is about it, and it’s not that close (30 minutes)
Bayou CC is a 9 hole in Thib if you’re not picky about the conditions.
That’s it, that’s the list. Unless you know someone that can get you into Ellendale CC.

I’d recommend breakfast and bloody’s downtown at Spahr’s, eat lunch at Big Mike’s BBQ, play LaTour or Ellendale, have dinner at Cinclaire, Fremin’s or Cuvee, pretty solid Saturday.

Plus Bayou just went up to $60 a round which is completely laughable for that place. Go to LaTour.

no way, the 9 hole US Open must be coming in 2028

Is Atchafalaya a better option?

Is Coach James Schilling still out there?

Houma to Atchafalaya Golf is pretty far (45 minutes)

No

Schilling is no longer at Bayou. He is coaching at NSU and assisting at LaTour. Played LaTour a few weeks ago, greens and fairway were pretty good. However, they are converting some fairway bunkers into grass pits by just letting the nature grass takeover. It looks pretty horrible. The clubhouse/C Can had holes in the floor, walls coming free from studs, and mold in bathrooms.

Are you a member at a club up there? Have your pro call Ellendale. We punched a couple of days ago, but should be fine in 2 weeks

Is this the tall guy that played at Centenary?

I am a member @ Cypress Bend. I will get my pro to make the call.

Should be fine. Hope you enjoy the course. There’s one rule: Don’t miss left off the tee. Applies on hole 1-18 with hole 13 (par 3) being a slight exception… missing the green just left is way better than in the bunker or right of it.

Than Bayou? Absolutely. It's now cheaper, has 9 more holes, a driving range and a way better clubhouse. It's 40 minutes away though. Played there last Friday.
eta: @ the 9 hole US Open

So true. Water, woods, and green side slopes will kill you to the left. Another thing I eventually learned from years of playing Ellendale is that driver is rarely the club. The majority of par 4s call for a hybrid or less off the tee.

If I am able to get on, I will remember this little nugget. Unfortunately, left is my normal miss, especially off the tee. I get lazy & open my front shoulder (I’m a lefty). I will need to aim right (& hit straight shots & draws all day long).
