For you swing gurus…
How to you keep your front shoulder closed, but still rotate through the shot. Seems like you can’t do both. What am I missing?

Hip disassociation. Some people call it separation

Why would you want your shoulders closed at impact, should be square or open

You don’t want to do this

I assume you're talking about the start of the downswing.
You want to keep your back facing the target as long as possible while the lower body makes the weight shift to the front leg. This is what separation is- separating the lower and upper body so they're not moving simultaneously.
This was always Jack Nicklaus's downswing key. If you can find it there's a photo of him on the 18th tee of one of his British Open wins that shows exactly what you're looking for - his belt buckle is facing the ball while his shoulders have retained their backswing turn.
Hope this is clear.

Google Jack Nicklaus photos St. Andrews, you'll see exactly what I was talking about.
Doing this will give you bonus yards I promise.

“It’s all in the hips.”
That’s all you need.

You’re making it too complicated. Turn until your back is facing the target, stay behind the ball, swing hard while staying behind the ball.
