Hell yeah baw! My handicap is 9. Something and I have broken 80 3 times. It’s a great feeling.

Excellent!

Next time you play, lower your expectations.

Of course, maybe this is the breakthrough round that gets you consistently better.

I usually have a mediocre round right after the round of the year, but hopefully you have found something that will stick around for a few weeks.

Congrats, brother!

I shot a PR of 73 today…. 1 freaking shot away from shooting even par.

That's awesome, my best so far is an 82. I've shot 39 three times on 9 on separate occasions, just can't put two of them together

Congrats! I did it for the first time as well a few weeks ago. 43 on the front. Turned it around with 3 birdies on the back. So I realize my score and that I'm going into 17 -3 on the back. Proceed to finish bogey...double bogey for what I guess you could call a smooth 79.

My entire life is consumed with breaking 80. Seriously, it's all I think about. I have been working my arse off for years to try and do it. I'm a 9.4 handicap with never having broken 80. I've shot several 80's, 81's, 82's, and 83's. I just cannot seem to get those few extra strokes off. It's not in one particular area either, it's just the inability to make a few less bogeys. It's maddeningly frustrating but also what keeps me going back to the range and the course. There's always the hope that "today is the day." I'm in a swing slump right now though, so I haven't been close in a while. I shot 83 on September 5 and haven't gotten that close since.

I remember shooting my first round in 70’s. Shot 75 at Webb, with my Dad. 100% legit, no mulligans, no drops, no bumps. Best feeling ever in golf especially now that Pops is no longer around. Congrats!

It’s a great feeling.
I usually break 80 one or two rounds a year, but haven’t done so this year.
I had it within my grasp Monday at Copper Mill, but I double bogeyed number 17, and I left birdie putt on 18 an inch short to finish with an 80.

Finally broke 80 Sunday at Links on the Bayou. 38/40 with a big fat 9 on number 15. Two in the water. Putted well with no three putts and the greens are primo right now. Made lots of 4' for pars with only one chip in birdie. From the blue tees. One up from the tips.

You’ve got to kick that thought out of your head. Just think about the next shot. How do I birdie this hole? Have someone else keep your score. Add it up at the end.

I know it’s easy to say, but I’ve been there.

Last bit of advice is: hit your chips 5’ farther than you think you need to. Most people come up short. Going long isn’t bad, you can watch the line on the return putt.

Good luck

I appreciate the advice. I actually never look at my score or total it up until the end. I write the score at the end of each hole but don’t keep track of +/- to par or total per 9. I am very good about thinking about the next shot and how to minimize anything over bogey. Problem is, if I’m not playing great I’m constantly scrambling to save par or bogey.

Also on the chips-my problem is the opposite… I’m aggressive on my chips so i usually go too long. I’m trying to work on picking a landing spot to factor in rollout and slope. It’s getting better.

Biggest miss right now is just not hitting enough GIR.

What’s causing this? Bad off the tee or bad irons?

Awesome! Spend some practice time feeling your club/turf interaction and what that does to the ball (aka touch)
Learn to go high and low and what that does to your roll out. Watch the Phil video on short game
