After "figuring out" a bit how to compensate for my out to in swing path with the club face (path was averaging -12ish), i decided to take a couple lessons with the hope of breaking through my plateau. Coach is absolutely trying to get that path down, but for the life of me, I'm absolutely failing at averaging less than -7ish. I just can't seem to get the club shallowed even when I feel like i almost exaggeratedly drop my hands first.

The one thing that occurred to me that we haven't yet messed with is potentially focusing on the follow through. I feel like I can have more control trying to shift my weight forward and focus on a straighter follow through rather than trying to fix it all at the top and/or transition. Only been playing 2 years, but would be interested in hearing yall's thoughts/successes in correcting this.

FWIW - when that creeps into my swing i start concentrating on getting through the ball and finishing low and left. It’s a little counterintuitive but helps me.

The struggle is real.

Have you tried setting the club up well behind the ball?

Have you seen video called “reversing the loop?” By Jess Frankyl

You’re probably not getting enough hip and hand depth in the backswing.

I had the same problem and here's what I did to correct it. Set up normally, take your right foot and move it back to where your right toe is even with the middle of your left foot. Now think of a clock and your target line is at 12 O'clock, istrike the ball at 7 and finish at 1.

I struggled with this, and after some lessons realized I really didn’t know how a correct swing was supposed to look. One pro taught me this drill: Slowly take the club back to the top of the backswing and stop. Then drop your hands to waist high and again pause. Your club needs to be pointed behind you at an angle. From there turn and swing through the ball and from that position you’ll have an inside-out swing path.

If when your hands reach waist high the club head is out in front of you, you are over the top and have no chance. A -12 swing path is no bueno. Get lessons, ideally someone who can put you on video to show you this. Go online and look at how the pros swing. You’ll never see that club head out in front of them on the downswing.

Hands Low, Club Up, Reverse Loop and most importantly Trail Elbow down.
