Charities on the golf course

Always throw a few bucks in, but what is the boards thoughts on this? Typically it’s a ‘wounded warrior’ or military related group set up on a par 3 asking for $20. Obviously there’s some sort of prize if you hit the green.
Personally I wish they’d set up on the practice green or range and run some similar gimmick instead of bringing the course to a halt on a Sat or Sun morning.
Will prob get downvoted for this as well, but it seems around every corner is someone asking for my money. I go play golf to relax, not to run into someone else asking for a handout. Also pay a shite ton in taxes to our government. Got a problem, take it up with them.

I have not seen this in casual rounds, but kinda agree with you. Now, if I am in a scramble or some other type of fun tournament then I fully expect something like this and I am open to donating and interacting with the group and playing whatever contest or game they have set up.
I just do not like getting blindsided with requests for money because there is an element of guilt-manipulation involved wherein they want to force me to do something. That is the part I do not like....I am generous to a fault...just don't try to manipulate me.

When I played at Peninsula in September they had someone on a par 3, but it wasn't for a charity. It was $100 to win $200 (I think?) to use in the pro shop. If you didn't hit the green, you still get to use your $100 in the pro shop. Completely pointless unless you were going to spend some money in the pro shop on souvenirs anyway.

If it’s during a tournament or something, totally fine with it and will participate.
If it’s just on a random day when I’m playing 18 by myself or with friends, I really don’t want to be bothered by it

They were out there when I played a few years ago. Minimum bet was $10, they doubled your bet if you hit the green. I was given a gift certificate for pro shop merchandise.

I can’t say that I’ve ever seen this besides a company scramble tournament.
And even then they were selling 50-50 tickets or an auction by the clubhouse. Nothing on the course.

Agree 100%.. see them routinely in the Houston area on weekends. I normally give them a few bucks as a donation for good karma. We recognized one guy enough and asked him about another chick that we would see often… he said she was fired because of stealing cash donations

Played at a college golf fundraiser at Cypress Bend years ago. 4 man scramble and on some holes the college golfers were on hand to help with drives, approach shots, putts and tee shots on par 3's. We get to 17 the short par 3 downhill by the water and my 3 partners miss the green. So the college golfer gets up and starts to warm up and I say, hold my beer. Which ironically, I had one, go figure. So I'm the last to play, I hit a laser to two feet and turn the college and say, sorry. We still gave him a hundo.

Played 3 days in a row a few weeks ago. Same guy at three different courses set up on a par 3.
