Seems to be the case. That comment was told to me by a current member who either had a long day and/or wanted to get some grief off his chest.

Some thoughts on the three clubs discussed. Being very familiar with all three, all of them would fit your needs and be good for your game.
UC has a really good practice area and getting in a regular game should not be an issue. A good strong core of young members that are fun to be around. Not a difficult course for tee shots. Approaches and short game carry the importance. Owners could put a little more investment in the course and support the grounds personnel. It is pretty much just golf, and maybe a beer and burger after the round. Changing your shoes in the parking lot solidifies that point.
CCL and BRCC are the more rounded clubs with golf, tennis, swimming, workout areas, dining, etc....
BRCC has the younger overall membership than CCL (I found that interesting until two CCL members told me that is true and is a concern for them). BRCC has a decent practice facility that is getting better. Their course s usually the one in the best shape as it gets the least amount of rounds. Very traditional layout as you would expect for a club that has been around a long time. No outside tournaments - except the LA State Am this year. Very tough driving course that requires accuracy and the greens are exceptional. They are near capacity for their membership and have no financial issues. Great family atmosphere as well.
CCL is about the same on the tee ball game as UC but has some tough green complexes. The best layout of the three courses in my opinion. Usually does not drain as well as UC or BRCC and that has hindered play in the last year. Finances have always been a concern/issue. That clubhouse is a monster to maintain - and costly.
If your employer is footing the initiation / dues, or if you have the funds, BRCC would be the best choice IMHO. The fact that their "all in" is twice that of CCL and they are near full and have no financial hurdle, says they are doing something right.
If it is just golf, it is hard to pass on the UC.
Good luck and glad to have you on board in BR!

This was a concern a few years ago, based off the average age of membership. A few months ago there was only 5 junior memberships left before they went to a waiting list. Not sure where that stands now.

CCL just renovated all their practice facilities in the fall of 2018. They added a new short game area 90 yards in length behind the indoor hitting facility & bottom hitting area on the range. They leveled the top hitting area on the range and completely re-sodded it. They also added all new turf on the top hitting area (same type as BRCC). All new drainage on the range as well.

This is true but it’s next to a swamp. They are working on a drainage project around the greens currently. That combined with the new cart paths with integrated drains will hopefully help. Everybody has been soaked for the last 5 months though.

That was with the former management that’s been out for a few years. The current GM came from Riveroaks in Houston and is doing a hell of a job. Also the club is in the middle of a $10mil renovation. I would say finances are ok

Quick update for all those in the BR region. Played BRCC, CCLA, & Uclub in that order. Immediately called Frank (membership guy at Uclub) to get it rolling. Made a few friends upset but Uclub is above and beyond the best “private” course in BR. I’ll be rocking my green and white MCC (Metairie CC) bag until I decide to buy that stitch UC bag in the pro shop. Come tell me hey and beers on me after a round. Hope to see a few you baws out there.

Care to elaborate on the experiences? I'm kinda curious how the other 2 are playing right now.

No kids, I’m guessing? Maybe you can switch one day, but once you have kids and the whole family can enjoy the country club experience, I think you’ll limit yourself by staying at U Club.

A bit of a change on the personal end. Wife and I will only be in BR for at max 2 years (residency completion) then head back to Nola.
I didn't care for the course at Baton Rouge CC. Although very nice and well maintained, the course will be played from the same tees every time, lacks versatility compared to CCLA or UClub. CCLA, fantastic course, a little wet from the rain we had throughout March. If we were going to be in BR for a longer period of time, would make more sense and been my choice.
No kids, just me and wife. Don't need a 40k sq foot clubhouse.
UClub got my juices flowing from a competitive golf standpoint. UClub will sharpen the game much more over the next two years than either course would.

That makes sense, your game will definitely be the better for it

I probably would have joined The Island. But to each their own.

Golf membership in residency?

Why would he want to join your public golf course? He wanted a private club.

Does he live out there?
Friend of mine lives two doors down from CEO. He is off 5 tee.
Wife is resident

Looks like there is going to be a reno at MCC before you get back to the home turf.

I couldn't imagine joining one club over a superior golf course for "the country club experience." I don't have kids so maybe it changes once you do, but as long as the pool and tennis courts are good enough all I care about is the quality of the golf course.

Well that’s the point. Many “golf clubs” have a course and that’s it, no pool or tennis. You’ll need that with kids. Dining, gym, and babysitting also help.

Yeah, I get that but U club has a pool, tennis courts, grill, and gym. I was more curious what you meant by "country club experience" that CCL would provide above UC?

I do have connections and they have both offered to introduce me to the clubs but seems to be half hearted because they don't want "new blood".
Have you ever stepped foot in a country club, baw?
