Cavity back vs players irons

Just out of curiosity is it normal to lose distance when going to a better club? The reason I ask is I had the chance to play around with a Titleist T100 yesterday and I lost 20 plus yards on pretty good center face hits versus my Callaway Rouge 7 Iron. Keep in mind I am in no way good enough to be purchasing this club but it peaked my curiosity. I don't do well at delofting the face so maybe that has something to do with it. Have a fitting next week just thought id ask.

The rogue 7 iron has 4 degrees less loft than the t100. 30 v 34 degrees and I bet the rogue has a higher cg making it higher launching.
Yes, you should have lost some distance, but 20 yards is a lot.

20 yards is alot of loss in distance.
Are the shafts the same or similar?

The loft is the biggest factor, but I'd bet money there's a difference in shafts thats hurting you too

the biggest difference in these two clubs asside from the aformentioned loft, is the size of the sweet spot. You are going from a SS the size of a 50 cent coin to one the size of a quarter. Your "pretty good center shots" with the T100 will still be worse than a similar shot with the Rogue.

Not sure about the shaft i just happened to have a demo (regular flex/standard length) T100 sitting in my bay so i played around with it. Im playing similar flex and length with steel True temper 95's.

The 4 degrees of loft is def the main issue but also, like you mentioned previously, you shouldn’t be hitting those irons. I’m willing to bet you aren’t hitting the irons flush and those big fat game improvement irons allow you to maintain ball speed with a large dispersion over the club face. Those t100s have some phenomenal tech in them but if you aren’t hitting it flush you aren’t getting the distance. In fact you’ll lose a bunch of distance compared to those game improvements.

I completely understand they aren't for my game I just was curious because I'm looking to make a move to the Apex 21s or the Srixon X5's and didn't know if I was going to run into the same issue.

Probably a little bit. They’re still both pretty hot faces with some juiced lofts but may see some ball speed losses.

Thanks. My game is rapidly improving and id prefer something with more feedback and a lower launch. With the cavity back 95% of my shots feel good even when I know they are not.
