Building indoor driving range/net

Thinking about building an indoor driving range/net to set up in a spare room or the garage to use during the winter months.
Anyone have experience with this?
Do you think it's even worth doing without a simulator? I know contact is a lot of the game but without a simulator, will you develop negative swinging habits while focusing strictly on contact?

Man up, put a jacket on, and go to the range

in reference to daylight savings rather than temperature, our range doesn't have lights.
Hell, I'm in Louisiana I wont even need a jacket to hit range on Christmas

Save up about 3k and buy a skytrak, net, and a mat

one of my neighbors has turned a bonus room over the garage into a golf simulator/bar/card room. it's bad arse. i'm not sure which simulator he's got. one thing i'll say is it requires a lot of room--probably more than you imagine. it's also nice to use the screen as a "wall-sized" tv to watch sports, etc
eta: he's got a gc2 launch monitor

I had a similar incident happen to me on a friend’s simulator. LINK
Wasn’t quite the same, though. I was drunk and spilled some Ghost in the Machine on his wife and her friends. He didn’t care that his wife was soaked with Ghost. It was a bottle from 7/28 he’d saved and didn’t appreciate me wasting the good shite.

You could build a good one for under $3,000 if you’re patient and wait for good deals. I’ve seen SkyTrak launch monitors for $1,500 online. Aside from that you need: a projector and ceiling mount, decent computer, game/simulation software, impact screen to project onto, turf mat, and some netting to enclose it all/protect your walls.

Would you really need the projector and screen?
Could I just hit in a net and see stats of draw, fade, launch angle or whatever else?
I saw some cheaper track man style radars. Are they worth anything?

I’m sure you could. Just use a big TV on the side would work the same.
Supposedly the SkyTrak is a good system. It’s not a radar system like Trakman, but I think mygolfspy or golfwrx did a comparison and the SkyTrak was surprisingly close in ball/club speed, distance, and spin.

Prices on GC2s HMT should be dropping and I am eyeing them.

Prices aren’t as high as I thought they would be. Maybe in a few years.

I’ve seen them go pretty low on rockbottomgolf. Every now and then they let the SkyTrak be subject to 10% off in addition to normal reduced rate. Can get it for under $1,500 new.

As places like GolfTec update to the GC Quad, you should be able to get a used GC2 at a pretty good discount. What's the software like for SkyTrak?

No clue on software. From the little research I’ve done, it seems good. Comes with good driving range and is compatible with 5 simulators including TGC (which I believe is the standard for simulator software).

Does he just use the projector he got for the range to also play the tv off of?

Yeah I think it is one of the more affordable systems and works great. The mat is what separates a decent to truly realistic experience. Spare no expense there

Yes the projector is on the ceiling
