Bought a Vokey SM8 and a Cleveland Zipcore

I am currently playing Ping Glide 3.0 wedges, but I am bored amongst this Covid stuff so I decided to do my own wedge tests.
Current in the bag: Ping 56 & 58 glides 3.0, good clubs for sure.
Garage Backups : Ping Eye 2 lob, TM HiToe 60 and a Cally Mc 56*
New Wedges : SM8 56/10 and Zipcore 62/6. The SM8 just came in, so no info yet.
I used the 62* Zipcore this week at Wolfdancer GC . It has exceeded my expectations so far. Really easily to hit flops and tight shots over a greenside bunkers from tight lies. A little bit of a muted feel on the Zipcore so far, probably due to the elastomer filling, but it stops on a dime.
I use DGS S400 in all wedges.
Right now the 62 has beat out my 58 due to more versatility up close with my personal ability.

I need to figure out my wedges. I have a 54 and 60 and no way are those leaving but I also have a 50 that’s been in and out of the bag. My problem is that I carry a 3 iron, 3 hybrid, and 3 wood. All of them have a need and fill a gap. I love hitting the 3 iron off the tee.

I'm in the same situation with 7 wood, 3 & 4 hybrids, I need to drop one of mine. I have a set of 52/56/60 MD4s that I'm just going to try and sell as a set and buy a new 52/56 setup

Ah, the young man's game. I haven't owned a 3 iron in 10 years. Of course I don't play the tips any more either.
My hybrid is just too easy to hit. Years ago I struggled with hybrids going left, but they are so many neutral and open options, it's just easy to hit a straight ball.
Wedge gapping can be a tough thing. The only wedge that I will never sell or trade is my original Ping Eye2 lob, when everything else fails, I can hit it.

It honestly comes down to which tees I play. If it’s the tips, usually I need more options at the top and I remove the 50. If it’s playing less than 6700, I could honestly use the extra options at the bottom and I’d remove either the 3 wood or hybrid.
When I’m just playing with the boys? I’ve got 15 clubs in my bag so it’s not a big deal. But for tournament and real rounds... ugh.

I am now so comfortable with my 22 degree Ping G410 hybrid, I can hit it 3 different distances by adjusting where I grip it, so I dropped the 3 & 4 irons.
Off a tee or good lie, I can get about 200 yards out of it.
It took some time but I can now hit a low shot with it out from under some trees if needed.

I play 54.12 & 58.08. Imo you only need 2 wedges. One for a bunker and the other for pitch n run. Abt players find more use out of a hybrid or fairway woods than an additional wedge.

I’ve been thinking about this lately. I currently have a 50, 54 and 58 in my bag. Would love to add a 2 utility iron, but I am finding myself with a lot of wedge shots for second shots and really have been leaning on full shots with the 54 and 50.

Just bought a SM8 52 sight unseen because I wasn’t pleased with the G wedge included in my set. I’m hoping to get more repeatability on full shots and more feel and finesse when closer to green

On some occasions, I will use my Hybrid for a chip and run, it works very well.

I swapped a 2 iron for a 2 driving iron. I’ve found a slightly better ball flight and a longer shaft led to more consistent shots.
Do you have a PW? Those are about 47/48 depending on brand. I don’t see a need for a 50 unless you have significant gaps between PW-50-54

I do have a PW at 46 degrees. I really mainly use it for full shots though any pitching I do with 50, 54 and 58 though I could eliminate one of those and changed the gapping. I hit the 54 a lot from the fairway.

Most are 44-46 these days unless you have blades. That leaves a significant gap to the SW IMO.

You're absolutely right. I play the Apex 19s and the PW is 43 degrees. I ended up buying the 4-AW since the AW is 48 and then I start gapping my wedges from there.

I picked up a Vokey SM10 60 last year and I love it. If you have the courage to pull it out of your bag then have the courage to swing it hard enough.
I liked it so much I was using it too much and realized there are better options for some shots.
