I moved out of NOLA in 1988. I played City Park all the time. At that time there were 4 course. N, S, E, and W, with the West course being the primo course.

Can someone explain what courses are there now? I see two courses. Are they completely new or did they use some of the original holes after Katrina?

Lived in the Lakeview area and would play West whenever I could. Really liked that course. Fond memories.

North Course and South Course

South Course - not too difficult, always in amazing shape.

North Course - looks like it was designed and run by the DMV.

Hope that helps.

Like woolfman said, if you want really good conditions but not a fancy layout or anything truly special go to the south. It can play long to overcome its simplicity so that is what i do. Now, if you need to take a mid round shiit, drive across the street and drop your deuce in the middle of one of the North Course fairways. About all it’s good for.

I played the original city park courses constantly as a kid, it was fantastic.

The East course was always my favorite.

Pretty sure the north course is the same as before and it’s terrible. The new south course opened a few years ago and it was redesigned by Rees Jones and it is in great condition and lies basically in the footprint of both the old east and west courses

"New" south course covers area that was used by old West course, plus area that was first 3 holes and last 3 holes on old East course.

Old North (used to be called Lakeside course) was slightly changed after Katrina and is simply called Bayou Oaks North. And it's in horrible condition. The greens may be some of the worst you'll see anywhere in the US.

Old South, was also called the Little Course, was close in 2003 or 2004 as part of the plan to re-develop the space. The area used by the Little Course is now the festival grounds behind Christian Brothers, the area around the big lake, the frisbee course, and the land where the new Children's Museum sits.

Old West Course was also called the Championship Course. It hosted the PGA tour event before it moved to Lakewood.

First time I broke 80 was on the East course. It was a great track. West was my favorite. Played the old North one time. That was all I needed.
Sounds like the new South Course is the best of both. Will have to play one day.

Thanks for the info.

The East was awesome, it had some really cool holes on it, it didn't go back to the clubhouse tho, you needed to have all your shite for the whole round before you teed off. I loved the holes that ran along the road, that huge par 5 and that really cool par 3. 18 on the East was awesome, had a killer second shot.

West was a good track and was harder, had some really cool par 3s on it.

I wish we still had the East and West out there.

East was my favorite, partly because it was always less crowded. I played the South a lot, because it was short (par 64 or 68, cant remember) and could be played in 2 1/2 hours. The South kinda blended with the rest of the park, and sometimes you had to watch for people walking around on the course. I remember teeing over a couple of girls sunbathing once. Made my first eagle on the South, a 250 yd par 4.
