I’m flabbergasted so many people here are defending the NCAA here honestly.

Is it because you guys are tired of all the social media outcry over women’s sports and all of that? Imagine LSU men’s golf was booted from a regional because of weather without playing?

Or how about imagine a baseball regional gets cancelled due to weather even though it seems like they could’ve played it through the mud and they just advance the highest seed and LSU (or whoever your school is) misses out? You honestly would be okay with that?

Or here’s one, imagine whatever the highest level of sport you played in had a championship and it got cancelled because of weather when you felt like it could have been played, how would you feel?

You didn’t quite get this right

The equivalent would be playing only 1 game in the regional and then advancing that team....

And yes, in that situation I would rather just advance the top seed

No that’s not the equivalent because they didn’t play AT ALL

So it’s more “fair” in your opinion to advance with no play at all then to play as much as you can and advance the winner? Something about the higher seeds “earning it” or something like that I guess

The issue with advancing the top seeds was that a lot of the teams had covid shortened years or not a full slate of tournaments. We knew who the top 6 were going into the regional, but are those really the top 6 teams?

We can judge the teams on a seasons worth of data, or we can play a makeshift half arse tournament and use that

I am not sure why the latter makes any sense

Our women's team played 22 days worth of events, 8 separate tournaments

Id rather them, and whomever, be judged on that than a candy arse put together "lets just do something" tournament

There's hundreds of other teams in case you weren't aware. Governed by other entities that may or may not have let their teams play a full schedule. It's your opinion, your entitled to it, but pretty much any one with credibility in the sport or otherwise disagrees with you.

Quite literally everyone?

Actually, I believe that you believe you are the only one capable of acting with logic

By your "logic", why have regionals at all? Look at a seasons worth of data and crown a champ.

Because the idea of a playoff is to determine the champ with a predetermined tournament as designated by the sport

It sucks, but considering the tournament is ongoing, i think this is the most logical way to move the teams on

If the SEC champion for football was either "play one quarter", or take the team with the best regular season, I would choose the team with the best regular season

If the round of 16 at Wimbledon was play only a tiebreaker, or take the higher seed, I would take the higher seed

So I ask you and mingo

Why do you seem to be ok with playing a maskeshift playoff round advancement in golf, and not in other sports?

The NBA shortened the season this year. Baseball now places a runner on 2nd in extra innings and plays 7 inning double headers.

Golf is a different sport than football. One quarter is only part of a game. 18 holes is a round. The rules stipulated 18 holes was enough to qualify the event, which they could have played.

PGA Tour has played plenty of weather shortened events and has changed par 4s to par 3s due to whether in the middle of events.

For what its worth, if all else was the same in the other situations you put forth, I would opt for the shortened competition over no competition.
