Playing one cold Sunday morning. First tee, one if my playing partners, took a monster swing. Hits a rocket to about 2 o clock, 4 inches off the grass. It has a remarkable carom off a rock edging around a flower bed, and shoots about 40-50 feet almost straight up. We all watch and I realize it might come at me. I don’t move an inch, put my hand out about 5 in from my body, catch it one handed and immediately toss it to him and said deadpan “mulligan “.
It was a funny moment.

Back around 1973 or so, I was watching players tee off in the LSU Invitational. I don't know who, but one guy heeled his driver on the first hole, hit the tree trunk immediately to the left and forward of the 1st tee. The ball went back toward the clubhouse and came to rest on the welcome mat just outside the back door, about 40 yds behind where he teed off. That is the worst 1st tee shot I've seen.

TPC La. First tee. Had a buddy tee off, just clipped the ball with the far outside edge of the driver. Ball departs tee on a rocket at 3 o'clock, hits his tee marker and ricochets between his legs into the weeds directly behind his back. Laughed so hard we cried.

Buddy smoked a low driver off the tee last Saturday.

The ball ricocheted off one of the wooden tee markers in front of us and bounced back 20 yards behind him.
