Play in a 11 man group round on sundays. Pretty indifferent round today overall. 7 over on the front and 5 over on the back.

16th hole is a downhill par 3 145 yard. Can’t see much of the green. Just enough of the pin to shoot with the range finder. Can’t see the base of the pin normally. I hit and it was a perfect line towards the hole with some cross wind to boot. Get down the hill to see my ball less than 1/8” away from being a hole in one. I went from super excited about the shot after seeing it to quickly irritated it didn’t just drop. Odd thing is, I landed about 4’ past the hole and the ball rolled backwards towards the pin and somehow stopped on the back side of the pin meaning it rolled past the pin somehow. I’m guessing it did some weird lip out thing. This group pays $25 a person for a hole in one so I was 1/8” away from making $250 on one hole.

I did sink the putt, won the skin, won a greenie and a birdie which was worth $30. So I didn’t leave empty handed. Haven’t had a hole in one. Closest before this was 1’ from the hole.

Almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

Impressive- congratulations.
My son lives in Australia and there is a muni course close by and a par 3 about 145 yards two rounds back to back about 18 inches out and next day about 24 inches. That’s probably the closest that I’ve been to a hole in one.
Congratulations again.

Alas, the scorecard reflected a birdie. . . My tee shots were on the struggle bus yesterday. Usually my drives are consistent and the rest of my game is hit or miss.

I know the feeling. Makes the tap in birdies easier if nothing else.

For some reason on the last par 3 I always joke with myself that "this is the last shot for a hole in one".

Oh well. Miss by 1/8" inch or a mile, it's still not a hole in one. Maybe one day.

Was on vacation with family last week and played alone out at Tiger Point near Navarre, FL. Worst fear almost happened as I was about a foot from a hole-in-one with not a damn soul around.

I once played the old City Park (N.O.) West Course EARLY in the morning. The fog was so bad that you could barely see your hand in front of your face. I had played under similar conditions out there but usually by the time you reached the 145 yard, Par 3, Hole 8, the fog had lifted.

Hole 8 was over a pond. The fog was so thick that we had to rely on the group ahead of us to scream back to us to tell us that we could hit the ball. Our foursome hit our balls and just prayed we could find them.

I hit what I thought was a good shot, but I had no clue where it ended up. When we got up to the green, we started searching all around the green for our balls. I was on the green and I still couldn't see the hole (or even where the hole was). When I eventually got closer to the pin, I could see that there was a ball that was literally about 1/10th of the way in the hole and just hanging on the lip. I walked up to the pin and saw that it was my ball.

I almost got the only hole-in-one in my life and I didn't even see it.

I also hit my closest shot to a hole in one this weekend. Ended up about 3” from the cup. Oh well. Maybe one day.

Don't give up hope!

I haven't made one yet and I've been playing for 40 years. Came close, but like he said, "close only counts in horseshoes/hand grenades".

One of the guys I golf with regularly made his first hole-in-one when he was 73! As long as you're still swinging, there's a chance!!

I’ve hit the pin before and been 1ft away, but other than that I generally don’t hit quality shots on par 3s. I’ve actually holed out from the fairway 6 times, though.
