Buy a new putter.

I’ve done this a few times.

I sometimes wonder if the putting surfaces at the stores are funneling the ball into the hole.

Here are the one putt probabilities from 4 feet:

18 handicap - 65%

I disagree with this and would love to see the source. I think maybe three footers might be 65% but 4 footers are probably 50/50 for most 18 handicappers. TBH most 18 handicappers are very liberal with "gimme" range putts, too, so those stats might not be included.

I’m an 11 index currently.

I’ve been as low as 7.5 index.

When I play my very best, I have less than 30 putts. When I don’t, putts are 30 or more.

Golf is hard.

Pick a line, commit to the line. Keep your head still and make a steady stroke.

The source is Mark Brodie who created strokes gained and has logged millions if not 10s of millions of shots from golfers of all levels.

I'm sure you're right though, what the frick does he know, he's just professor at Columbia after all

Use a line on your ball. Line it up to your aiming point. Align the dot or line on top of your putter with the line on the ball. I find this helps especially on short putts. Sometimes standing over the putt the line looks way off but it never is. Your eyes can play tricks on you, especially with shorter putts.

Went to practice green.

Process:
1. Align face with left hand only.
2. Add right hand.
3. Immediately make stroke.

Come to the Rummy Open in Oct/Nov. I basically won that shite last year and I'm around an 11. You got the right jib cut.

This.

I highly recommend his book, Every Shot Counts. It gets a little nerdy at times, but the stats are absolutely worthy of going over. I literally took pics of some of them to send to a playing partner who gets angry when he misses an 8 footer. I had to show him that the absolute best players in the world only make half of their 8 footers, so golfers like us have no business being angry over missed putts.

I would go to a practice green and do the four corners drill for 30-45 minutes multiple times a week until you find a comfortable stroke and routine and can sink 20+ in a row. Then keep doing the drill regularly and do it before/after rounds — even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes.

Make sure to throw in some side hill putts if your practice green has some slope.

Better today.

Made several good putts.
Missed one 3.5 footer, but stroke was ok.

Missed a 6 footer where I opened the face.
Made more than I missed.
