For 185 I use my 21 degree wedge.

Taylor Made calls it a 5 wood, but I am ahead of the curve and just call every club a wedge.

You are aware the ball goes further out of the rough in some instances no?

Absolutely, we call them flyer lies... What Tiger was hitting out of was not.. Thus why he was hit a PW need the extra lift to get up as quickly as possible..

Yes, so not a balata. Do you know what that is?

Who mentioned anything about balatas? Plus let's not pretend that the ball was making a massive difference with a PW it may have been 5 or so yards

quote:

That’s a 12-15 yard difference in carry distance

Maybe.. lot of variables to consider.. same , shaft length, same head, same swing speed and the distance of carry shinks.. But like said a lot of variables..

When it's nice and hot I can get my PW to about 150-160.

Crazy the difference temp makes. Last week in the 40s I was only able to get about 120-125 out of my PW and yesterday at 70 I was able to get about 140 with the rocks they have over at bayou oaks.

I was seriously just thinking about that because of this thread. My last round my 6I was my 180 club. When it's Louisiana summer hot my 6I is a 200 club.

Tough adjustment going from hitting my gap wedge or 54 degree into greens in August to hitting 9i or 8i in December

I hit 7i into a 170 yard par 3 last week. Not the best strike of all time but really not bad. Perfect line right at the pin. Landed about 12 yards short of the green

You were playing with more loft, higher CoG and a balata, you were not fitting a pitching wedge 150 yards. Neither was Tiger Woods, John Daly, or DLIII
Lord but you have no clue.

I used to hit Balata 100 compression. 4 of my aces were 150ish PW with those. I’d happily play with them today.

Biggest problem with them was not spinning it off the green. If you don’t think me, and a half dozen guys I played with couldn’t rack it 320 plus regularly you have no clue at all. One guy in his 50’s could bomb them over 350 all day long. It might be a fairway over, but it was out there.

Supposedly, it’s 2 yards for every 10 degrees above or below temperature of 70.

I bet mileage varies.

My body moves better at 90 degrees than 50 degrees.

All I know, is at some point in the cold I might have 4 layers on so the swing is not very fluid.

Now that’s a club setup you don’t see every day.

A 3 yard gap in the 3w and 5w with a 30 yard gap to the 4 iron.

Now if you can control fade a 5w….maybe. I’d rather feather a 2 iron.

I’m not stupid enough or arrogant enough to say people can’t do something they used to see all the time. Because you can’t do it, doesn’t mean other people can’t.

Maybe you need to play better competition. I wasn’t the best in my area, but I routinely proved I was in the top 20.

And as for the last, I really can’t believe you were stupid enough to say that on a golf board. If you think you can’t make a shot, odds are great you’ll be right.

If you play pretty well and think you can, odds are pretty good you’ll get a much better result.

I hit 5w almost exclusively off the tee on 1 hole where if you hit it anywhere between 220 and 250 if ends up the same spot. And I have to hit 3 wood straight up the hill on a par 5 where 240 or 250 is a hit. Those are averages of all shots, not stock distances

You’re a 4 handicap and talk about yourself like you’re Tiger Woods. I assume you have to come on here and tell us about how great you are because no one can stand to listen to it in person. You have to be absolutely miserable to play with

We’re playing tomorrow, forecast is in the 40’s, sunny, 15-20mph winds.

I bought a heavier pair of sweats today and some heat patches. I expect it’s gonna be a fade day instead of draw until I can lose a layer.

Oh excuse me.

I forgot i said I'm the greatest player on the forum, knows what everyone actually shoots, how far they hit it, etc….no wait that’s you.

I think you need to find a mirror to find one miserable SOB to play with.

You may not outright say it but every single one of your posts is praising yourself. Nauseating

I’m not that good… at all. But according to the USGA, I’m better than you (not that I care)
