No its not. You're just doing it wrong.
You have to salvage. You use the shittiest cylinders, and you don't do the initial game. You want the shitty hermet crabs. Not the treasure.
You build up the combo meter and wait until you get the shitty crabs, and then If you start a full combo to kill the little shitty hermit crabs you'll get a rare or legendary core about 8/10 times.

I'm never going to finish this fricking game. I have too much fun just running around killing shite and exploring and I'm obsessed with unlocking every blade. Like I said early, this game is pretty much the absolute perfect Pokémon game with a different skin on it. If the blades had the ability to evolve as you played with them it would be perfect.

No I know how to farm, I should say "Loot rate" for rare blades. It's terrible.

I had about half by 5 I think, so not far off. They just become harder and harder to get. And I'm missing a lot of attack blades. Like Nearly all of them outside of the story blades plus 2.

like I said, it's ok, I actually kinda wanted to know if I was correct on my assumption anyways. I was kinda happy to find out I was.
I was thinking to myself though "they are all girls in the hot tub... nope, it's a Japanese game, no way Nia is a boy"... hmmmmm.. oh wait, those weren't just all girls, they were all blades.
ETA: So honestly I was like 99% sure I had figured it out. I do think though that seeing how / why it is what it is, will still be pretty powerful, so I'm ok with that.
ETAA: I also go KOS-MOS from a common core
... but when I started showing her I flipped the frick out so hard. I was texting my cousin at the time and started just freaking out, probably some of my fondest memories in JRPGs were the Xenosaga games:

If it's any consolation I've put 40 hours into the game already and I'm only on chapter 4... I'm addicted to salvaging and tiger tiger so at one point I had ~60 common cores

When will I finally start actually building up my team?
I also just finished chapter 4... This story is setting up to be pretty awesome. I love heroes of old doing what they feel is right, only to be the bad guy years later for these beliefs; story lines

UnOfficially, end of 5, officially end of 7 for the reason you already know. But there is "flexibility" to that that is opened up in 8. You'll understand.

It keeps ramping up until the end imo. It's awesome, and there are still some surprises left. Chapters 8 and 9 were legit GOATs from a story perspective.

btw, the cutscene at the end of chapter 4 was eye opening as well. What Patroka did kinda clued me into Torna being different... I mean, we'ld seen it with Cole, but seeing Patroka do what she did would have confirmed for me my suspicious on Mia. Obviously I don't know what this means, or why they are doing what they are doing - and I might not even be 100% correct in my head. But I am super interested in seeing it all play out

I'm up to 500k gold thanks to salvaging now. I found a place that also spawns some higher level mobs as well to help build trust. I'm just ready to open up the salvaging point that gives classic and rare cores.

So I get to Indol... notice it's full of core crystals, has a bunch of refugees, notice there are like no merc missions attached to it, and very few quest...
needless to say, after playing Lost Odyssey years ago I pretty much learned to take context clues and have raised indol's dev level to 5 and completed all the quest and done a whole lot of salvaging at the salvaging point
They really made you stay in Indol a long time, about to head out, you will be missed ol' prince
ETA: I literally just finished all of the Indol stuff... (running back in forth, finishing chapter 5, etc.) and am about to head to the home of Adamm, how much longer does Indol have?

no I don't... thanks for letting me know it'll be awhile though. phew, I just finished everything there though, so it'll be nice to not have to go back ever again. I can forget about all of those Refugees

ETAA: I think I need to be doing with Salvaging for awhile though. I'm down to 7 common core crystals and haven't gotten a 4* summon in forever. I think it's time to level up my blades some more and get my base stats to 10 before I go on another salvaging expedition

The story takes some good turns on this, but yeah you're thinking the right direction about Indol.

Welcome to the grind. I've had 1 4 star pull, and it was a common not a rare blade, in like 200 core crystal opens.
