I’m sorry but this game’s soundtrack beats Nier by a light year and a half and it’s not close.
that's just crazy talk

Convince me otherwise. I’ve played both games and Xenoblade to right before the ending. Nier is way more atmospheric and in my opinion does a BETTER JOB of providing proper atmosphere to the game. However, i can say with conviction it is not a better soundtrack.

Then this game has me even more excited than before, because the music almost single handedly sells Nie Automata for me.

Ive ran into this part in chapter 7 that absolutely pisses me off.
It’s right before Malos gets rekt by Mythra and he’s super powerful AND has Jin. The whole match he’s like...
MONADO JAIL
MONADO CYCLONE
MONADO SLASH
MONADO CANCEL
MONADO ABSORB
BLAH BLAH BLAH
Dude needs to shut the frick up. I guess I’d be mad too if I got fricked up 6 ways to Sunday by a blonde bimbo with a pre-teen fetish.

I've found in certain parts turning the "game voices" off in audio settings helps battles sound tolerable, it will cut all that shite out. Notable one on the ship in the beginning with the soliders going "you think you can take me" 145 Times per fight

I only halfway skimmed that post ... as I'm only on chapter 2 (the very beginning mind you )
I've been watching my crpto coins instead of playing Xenoblade.. I'm not ashamed

I never played the first one, is it a must play before I play this one on Switch?

No, plus nyou could just watch cutscenes on Youtube to get the gist of it.

I’ll just say this.
XC1&2 are happening at the same time and XCX is a spin-off.
And I know about the voice thing but I feel it takes away from the game.

After hearing some complaints, what are the optimal sound settings for this? Japanese voices, turning stuff off, etc.?
re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Switch JRPG Official Thread (84/100 Metacritic)Posted by FourThreeForty on 1/6/18 at 4:28 pm to Mystictiger
I enjoy the default English voices personally. Believe it or not, some of these voice actors’ first roles are IN this game. Like Mythra/Pyra, Nia...pretty much most of the main characters.
I would say the default settings are fine. However if you’re totally against hearing people call out their attacks before they do them then turn the voice to the lowest settings. However it doesn’t turn them completely off. BUT, the music in this game is freaking AMAZING.
Battle Theme 3
The problem people have with the battle system is that you the player aren’t in control or the entirety of it. Some of it is left up to the rest of your team which makes some bosses (particularly Jin in Chapter 9) INCREDIBLY difficult.
But otherwise this game is insanely addicting.
The reason I would stay with the English is sheerly for the comedic relief. There are subtitles in the Japanese version yeah, but the English delivery and accents just make it hilarious. It’s all up to you though.

I did a little battle primer on page 7.

This game gets so serious like so quick from like chapter 6-7. Goes from like a shonen comedy to a tragic space opera just like that.

During battles your companions (not your blade) pop up prompting ZL. What does that do exactly and does that impact your combo you build up?

My bad, page 6. Here you go.
quote:
So - - in Battle, when a teammate is ready to perform a Special with their current Blade (equivalent to you using A with the roman numeral info in the bottom right - Levels 1-4), their picture will appear on the appropriate side of the screen (Left side for the second person in order, right side for the third person) with 3 points of information:
1. The button to use their Special - ZL and ZR respectively
2. The element color of the current blade they have equipped (Blue for Water, Brown for Earth, Purple for Dark and so forth)
3. The Level of the Special they have ready to use - 1-3 glowing orbs that rotate around the picture
This allows you to use the Teammate to either 1) Start a Blade Combo with a Level 1 Special (even if someone has a level 2 ready, if this is the first special it will initiate the combo as a level 1 special) 2) Use a Special to Continue/Finish a Blade Combo
Just tap ZL or ZR to use that characters current Special

I’m pretty sure I read it correctly but just to be 100% certain, it does build on the combo?

Yes. It will start or continue a combo in play. But, remember, you have to follow the sequence in the top right corner of the screen.

I'm on a short hiatus while I beat Xenoverse 2 and unlock all the final forms.

Feels like a mini boss battle in some situations.
