Some surprising results, as the Xbox Series X is loading games as fast, or even faster, than the PS5 in most instances.

Also, there is no Quick Resume feature on PS5, so you'll need to find a save point and then do a cold boot each time you want to play a different game.

Batman: Arkham Knight

PS5 launch to menu - 41:39
Series X launch to menu - 40:35

PS5 menu to save - 17:30
Series X menu to save - 11:68

Destiny 2

PS5 menu to character screen - 50:14
Series X menu to character screen - 34:26

PS5 Orbit to the Tower - 46:58
Series X Orbit to the Tower - 37:27

Final Fantasy XV

PS5 launch to menu - 39:06
Series X launch to menu - 33:12

PS5 menu to save - 25:09
Series X menu to save - 10:11

Monster Hunter World

PS5 launch to menu - 31:39
Series X launch to menu - 23:17

PS5 launch to save - 13:08
Series X launch to save - 06:21

Red Dead Redemption 2

PS5 launch to menu - 30:16
Series X launch to menu - 26:24

PS5 menu to save - 34:35
Series X menu to save - 36:26

Additionally, cold boot times appear to be the same, but the Series X apparently boots from a resume state 10 seconds faster than the PS5.

Xbox is definitely more optimized for BC games than PS5. Let’s see how they compare on next-gen stuff

Surprised their faster than light storage didn't boost their times.

We haven’t seen any next gen times, and the SSD is certainly not the bottleneck. Microsoft has a much more robust backwards compatibility program and a stronger CPU, so it’s not really surprising to see it winning with old games

Fwiw, the new Spider-Man game boots from Home Screen to main menu in 8 seconds. I’m sure Sony first party devs will have super fast times, but we won’t really know anything substantive until we get comparisons of next-gen 3rd party titles. I imagine it’ll be very close

We should know more after the 10th when CoD:Cold War is released on both platforms.

Even if the PS5 gains a loading time advantage with next-gen games, it's nullified by Quick Resume on the Series X|S.

Quick Resume literally allows you to leave your game in a suspended save state for as long as you want. Any game(s) you're playing can just be suspended without needing to be reloaded for months on end.

The PS5's hardware is completely capable of matching this functionality, so it's surprising that Sony has yet to implement anything like this.

while it's a nice feature, it's just not something that I would really use. I'm not usually playing 2 games at once, unless I'm playing a single player game and someone is like "hop on Warzone real quick."

PS5 has the mysterious Switcher function that we're kinda in the dark on, I'm sure it'll be patched to be a real QR function later on. Not something I'm really itching for though

Are we really to the point of bragging about loading a game 5 seconds faster?

Considering that on paper the Sony drive has significantly better specs and that is what Sony has been hanging their hat on as the true gamechanger vs raw horsepower?

I would say that the XBox beating them on load times is significant.

Yes, grown men are arguing about $500 video game consoles.

Say what? You would use it all the time without realizing it.

In the middle of a game and gonna do something else? Watch Netflix or wash the car and Turn off the XBox. Don't worry about saving. Game will be where you left off in seconds when you come back.

both consoles do that now any time I boot up, I'll see the PS4 or Xbox screen and then I'm in the game. If I switch from a PS4 game to Netflix, I'll get a brief "suspending game" notification" but it's not bothersome

i guess it'll just be way quicker now? seems like people are touting quick resume more for the lighting quick game switching

Quick Resume is more about frame precise save states. The moment you suspend the game is where it will be saved. No needing to find a save spot or checkpoint.

Also being expanded to not just the last game you played, but pretty much all your games.
