More info on Sony's potential DRM method, nothing is confirmed yet.

It's all just speculation based on patents and behind the scenes conversations at this point.

quote:

A newly published patent application filed by Sony outlines a content protection system that would use small RFID chips embedded on game discs to prevent used games from being played on its systems, all without requiring an online connection. Filed in September and still awaiting approval from the US Patent Office, the patent application for an "electronic content processing system, electronic content processing method, package of electronic content, and use permission apparatus" describes a system "that reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets."

This is an old story, which they already debunked I think, by Sony

They did file a permit for RFID chips, and then people ran with it assuming it was some form of DRM. (like you said)

Furthermore, gamers will be able to enlist the assistance of friends when playing games. Via the integrated Skype chat, players can cede control to friend. How this will impact achievements is, as of yet, unknown.

PS4 has that as well minus Skype. It doesn't interest me on either system honestly.

It feels like a feature I will use once and never use again most likely.

I'm not sure if this deserves its own thread, but former EA CEO says you'll learn to love always-online DRM.

So far out of touch from reality.

I know, hence the "Obligatory MS copied Sony" part of my post. I also have no interest in it.

Bunch of cheaters if you ask me.

One comment I read earlier focused on recent history and how that should be the judge of how the new consoles will work.

The basic theory was that since XBox live is superior to PSN (in most situations but not all) then this next generation will be the same. I have no doubt that live will probably be excellent but to judge Sony on its past is foolish. If we were to do this we could also make the foolish assumption that the XboxOne will have heating issues.

Here's the bottom line. Regardless of which you purchase, you will be getting an excellent system each with its strengths. Just like 360vsPS3

Xbox had the superior online service while in my opinion PS3 had better exclusives and bluray (which I used alot).

My only real beef with Xbox was the fact that you did not have access to netflix, Hulu, HBO that you were already paying for through their services.

Indeed. We all want more draconian video game systems!
