They aren't doing direct purchase of Game Pass via MS Rewards anymore, but can still do it by converting them to XBox gift cards.

Yeah the price for Game Pass through Microsoft rewards skyrocketed when they got rid of it directly. Went from 12k points which was pretty easy to earn each month to twice that amount.

True, but it still doesn't cost anything. MS Rewards is a free program. I see people complaining about how much more it will cost in rewards points now, but at the end of the day we're talking about points you earn simply by using Bing for web searches (I use it mostly for work-related searches), spending 5 minutes answering some polls and opening the Xbox mobile app, and playing video games. I obviously don't want to spend more rewards points for Game Pass than I was last week, but I'm still spending the same amount of money as I was last week: $0.

Yeah I agree there is still value in MS Rewards. I'm turning sour on game pass though. I've started banking my points to use on game sales throughout the year. I even used some at Best buy to get Donkey Kong Bonanza earlier this year.

I've been using them for the movie deals they've been doing. I got digital versions of all the extended edition LOTR and Hobbit movies and a Superman movie. I have used it for purchases of games on the Xbox games store also, but haven't used it for other types of gift cards yet like Best Buy, Target, whatever else. Would definitely consider doing that though.

Well, it seems in some countries like Austria, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Korea, Poland and India and maybe more that the increase was only for new accounts, so those with subscriptions kept the old price but those that rage quit and canceled lost the old price and will have the new price if they sign back up.

I'm sure this will upset some of the US users that they didn't grandfather everyone in at the old price.

I stopped doing auto payments a while back, so I wasn't going to qualify for that regardless. I have Game Pass through like late 2027 anyway so I'm not concerned.

With Prime Days you can get the Gamepass Ultimate Card for 56.99 vs the 59.99 for 3 months. I believe they let you stack up to 3 years. Mine doesn’t expire till Jan but thinking of grabbing another year

No problem, you can only buy two at a time per transaction. They emailed me the codes and I had them in 5 min and added them in 10.

I ended up seeing where I had service till Jan, so I bought three cards to give me another year and turned off auto renew and will try to find deals in future

Glad it helped you!

I think how big of a deal we can find will depend on how many threatening to cancel actually cancel. If there is a substantial drop, we might get a good deal down the line.

They'll never publish it, it will be buried in their financial statements through obfuscation as a line item nobody can recognize.

I'm so glad I chose to keep my PS5 pro when things got tough. I was a huge Xbox dude until the price hikes and then whenever the things got tough financially I had to sell one and I'm glad I kept the PlayStation.

its only a matter a time before Sony ups their PS+ prices. especially if Xbox abandons hardware and Sony/Nintendo are the only options. they claim they're not abandoning hardware, but as we can all bare witness to the Game Pass fiasco, they liars so....

Sony already gives a discount for buying a year vs. the monthly price. Might be a good time to stack some time. I think it was 3 years ago they had a Black Friday sale for $98 yr for Premium. I've got another year left so will be watching for a sale this year.

Can Nintendo (or Sony especially) financially afford to abandon hardware?

It doesn't make one bit of sense to me that people are magically going to start gaming on their desktop PCs, especially with how piss poor optimization has become and the pricing/availability of GPUs.

What you may have are more consolized PCs entering the space (think Steam Machines). I think it's sort of the evolution of the portal PC market that is starting to become oversaturated now. Not everyone wants to game on underpowered hardware for the sake of playing on a handheld device.

Is this actually true though? Aside from a game here and there, most run great from what I have seen. Even the Sony games run great. Looking at the list of top 2025 games so far;

Clair Obscur, runs great
Elden Ring Nightfall, runs great
CoD/BF always run great
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, runs great
Assassin's Creed Shadows, runs good
Doom The Dark Ages, runs great

and the pricing/availability of GPUs.

This hasn't been an issue for months now. GPU's are back down to normal prices with several now under msrp. No different than any tech product with high demand. Meanwhile PS5/XBX's have increased prices on 5 year old outdated tech consoles.

RTX 5070 MSRP $549
$549
$549
$549
$539
